What was Joe Biden Thinking? (Dick Morris)

@ 3:10 pm

On the night before he announced his second presidential bid, Biden gave an interview to The New York Observer and said:

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American
who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

It’s hard to come up with a benign — or even logical — explanation for his comment. > Read More

Democratic Intraparty Fights (A.B. Stoddard)

@ 3:00 pm

How do you like the New Direction for America? Are your new leaders passing meaningful legislation, showing bold and courageous leadership on the Iraq war they strongly oppose, and running the people's House the way they promised to? Sorry to sound like a House GOP Conference press release, but couldn't these Democratic turf battles have taken place sooner, or been buried better? > Read More

As for McCain…. (Armstrong Williams)

@ 1:51 pm

Senate powerhouse and prospective presidential candidate John McCain may have doomed his nominating chances before he's even announced his intentions. Impossible, you say? How can this juggernaut who is already ahead in some presidential premonition polls — even against the likes of Hillary Rodman Clinton and Obama- fad — endanger his prospects so soon? > Read More

Poll: Could Al Gore Win the Democratic Presidential Nomination? (Hugo Gurdon)

@ 12:41 pm

Nearly a third of you (32%) thought President Bush's State of the Union
speech would help him, while only half that number (16%) said it would
harm him. But 52 percent said it would make no difference.

These occasions are supposed to give presidents the chance to seize
the political initiative, so Bush's address appears to have failed at
least in that respect. This was always in the cards; the odds of moving
people away from their entrenched positions at this stage of the Iraq
war were slim indeed.

To take part in our new poll , about Al Gore's chances should he make
a White House bid, scroll down the page and cast your vote.

'Democrat' - the Pejorative Adjective (Bill Press)

@ 11:27 am

I’m proud to be a Democrat, and proud to be a member of the Democratic Party. But I’m sick and tired of being insulted by George W. Bush.

Take his State of the Union address. This should have been a time for reaching out to the other side. Bush pretended to do so. Instead, he ended up insulting Democrats by saying: “I want to congratulate the new Democrat majority.” > Read More

Iran Can't Become the new Cambodia (Dick Morris)

@ 11:22 am

The Bush administration is backing into a confrontation with Iran by charging that Iranian terrorists are arming, funding, and encouraging Iraqis in their efforts to kill American soldiers. But, by characterizing the confrontation with Iran as having been triggered by Iranian actions in Iraq, the Bush people risk making their important and vital attempt to confront Iran and stop its nuclear development an escalation of the war in Iraq, just as Nixon's invasion of Cambodia was seen as an escalation of the war in Vietnam.  > Read More

Why black leaders are not embracing Barack Obama (Armstrong Williams)

@ 1:53 pm

Regarding Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) virtues as a presidential candidate, the Rev. Al Sharpton hears a lot of media hype but doesn’t see any substance. "I want to know from Sen. Obama where the meat is," he said on MSNBC. > Read More
