Tony Snow's Next Big Battle (Bill Press)

@ 11:09 am

After all the talk about Elizabeth Edwards, here’s more bad news: White House spokesman Tony Snow’s cancer has also come back, and spread from the abdomen into the liver.

Enough already! I’ve read the book, but I still don’t understand why so many bad things happen to so many good people. And yes, I include Tony Snow on my list of good people.

Sure, we disagree on almost all the issues, and we have for a long time. I’ve debated the issues on his radio show; he’s been a guest on mine. And a few times, we went out on the road together as a left/right dog-and-pony show.

Tony’s a true believer on the right, just like I’m a true believer on the left. But he’s also a fun guy to hang out with, never takes himself too seriously, and is devoted to his wife and family.

In fact, I was sorry to see Tony become White House press secretary because I knew how good he’d be on the job. As he proved to be. And as, God willing, he’ll continue to be for another year and a half.

Tony won his first round with cancer. If anybody can win a second round, he can.

Fight the good fight, Tony. We’re all counting on you.

The Hill welcomes comment from anyone and will almost always post it whether it is favorable or critical, as long as it is substantive and advances debate.

  1. Bleh, more with the "fighting" cancer. What's he supposed to do, go through a Rocky training montage and come out with his boxing gloves and trunks? *Ding!* *Ding!* "Round 2: This Time, It's Personal"

I'm sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine, all of the undue violence in our language. Everything has to be a "War" or a "Battle". You can't stop drug addiction or terrorism with troops any more than you can cure cancer by drinking raw eggs and jogging up steps.

I am with you in hoping that Mr. Snow stays optimistic, that his treatment is successful and that he has a full recovery. But please, although I know its unintentional, don't imply with lazy language that those that succomb to cancer aren't good "fighters" or that survivors were just "too tough" for the disease to beat.

Early detection, good treatment and a positive attitude are the way to go, not a mean right hook and a wicked uppercut.
