Fred Thompson Will Drain All But Rudy (Dick Morris)
Polls show that a big part of the vote that John McCain and Mitt Romney are getting in the Republican primaries, to say nothing of the vote that Newt Gingrich could get if he runs, comes from people who are turned off by Giuliani's social liberalism rather than turned on by any specific attraction to one of the candidates. This vote is now split four ways — among McCain, Romney, Fred Thompson, and Gingrich. If Fred Thompson gets into the race next month, it will drift to him and concentrate in his corner.
McCain is not a good place for social conservatives to hang out because of his support for the immigration bill, among other liberal legislation. Romney's flip-flop-flips on abortion and gay rights make him highly suspect. And Newt isn't running yet. So if a true believer with no history of flip-flops and no offsetting liberal positions on other issues gets into the race, as Fred may, he will pick up a lot of these votes now parked among the other candidates.

Sorry Dick, he will drain Rudy too. Rudy is ok, but Fred's appeal is so broad as soon as he announces he becomes the leader.

This Freddy late entry is indicative of a party with no sense of direction. I guess Freddy is willing to take the defeat in 2008. The GOP is ethically challenged, out of touch, beholden to corporate interests, and in need of a rudder. Defeat is just what the doctor ordered to rid the party of the Neocon fringe. Defeat.

Chris, I'm sorry but you must be a Democrat and not any kind of old-time conservative. "Defeat" has become the new motto of the Dems, and you seem to really like that word.

Chris, Everone started the campaign way too soon.
Fred will help consolidate the base. He also is recognizable and
is just what is needed for the party that will retain the White House in 2008.
I for one hope he is a true Reagan conservative and will lead to a smaller government and keep taxes low.

THIS DOESN'T LEAVE MUCH FOR THE THREE MUSKETEERS ON THE DEM SIDE, TO FEED ON, NOW DOES IT!

Hey, Chris, you better go back to Guina and get another glass of kool aid!
You don't really think the top tier of DEM misfits have any kind of chance , now do you? A Muslim converted to Christianity(?), a Socialist and the Breck Girl! SOME TEAM!!

Have Dr. Dobson & the rest of the Xian right now decided that Thompson is sufficiently "Christian" enough for them?

Morris incorrectly assumes that only social moderates are currently supporting Giuliani and that his supporters therefore will not gravitate to Thompson. He's wrong. Without Thompson there are no social conservatives in the race right now, so I have been leaning toward Giuliani based on his security credentials. If Thompson gets in, I am likely to switch from Giuliani to Thompson.

Fred has me excited. This is the first time I have given money to ANY politician. (and I'm 67) If he can do that for the grassroots, he can win the nomination. And I would really like to see him go up against Hillary. Rudy would loose to her.

I've been saying on this site, ever since Fred appeared on the horizon that he will win both the nomination and general election. People are tired of idiots, rogues, socialists, demagogues, snake oil salesmen, super high energy robots, tell-me-where-the-wind blows keen political observers. What they want is simply a person who knows something that makes sense, believes in it, tells it like it is, and is capable of processing new data intelligently. In addition, the person has to connect on a visceral level and remain cool under pressure. Every one of the existing candidates has something wrong with them. Fred has very few things wrong with him, and so he'll win. It's as simple as that.

I also believe the moment Fred Thompson delivers an offical announcment,he will dominate the conservative vote.I talk
to conservative friends and all have been doing
their research on Thompson's Bio,senate votes and committees, and his stand on the
crucial issues facing our nation today, like
border security, foreign polices, small
government and accountabilty!I believe
we are making an informed decision to
issues that will make or
break this nation. Fred
Thompson is coming in out of Washington, I like that!

Fred Thompson has the appeal to the center 80% of voters and a few more on the right. We LIKE Elmer Fudd, as the Democrats, liberals and socialist call him. The choice may come down to a southern conservative running against a socialist. You remember Mr. Chad, well he has had a few more children than just hanging, dimpled and pregnant. Hope it does not come down to that. I will vote FOR Fred Thompson and against Hillary Clinton. You can blame most everything on Bush, Congress and the Supreme Court, but you will have to pull the lever ONCE. Do you want the voice of reason, or do you really want a much greater role of government in your life, that is the question. Be careful what you wish for, you might get it. Thompson is fine and the extreme Bush-bashing and now Thompson attacks are indicators of the perceived threat of a viable, front-running candidate. Methinks thou doth protest a tiny bit too much!
