The Official Budowsky Pardon Contest (Brent Budowsky)

@ 4:38 pm

Who will Bush pardon first? Enter the official Budowsky Pardon Contest.

After today's Kafkaesque Alberto Gonzales testimony, here's a question for The Hill's Pundits Blog community; place your bets on the following:

Who will get the first full presidential pardon — Scooter, Alberto, whomever General Taguba believes is covering up the Abu Ghraib crimes, or another dark-horse candidate?

Whoever posts a comment with the correct answer, remind me when the pardon is issued
and I will buy you lunch at any restaurant in Washington. If you are all correct, and Bush
issues a mass pardon, I will rent a room at a posh restaurant and we will have a Pundits Blog conclave, on me.

Place your bets — daily double contest prize if one of our Republican pundits wins the contest!

The Hill welcomes comment from anyone and will almost always post it whether it is favorable or critical, as long as it is substantive and advances debate.

  1. Bush will issue no pardons. Don't worry, I'm a cheap date.

    Comment by Robert Rosencrans — July 24, 2007 @ 5:03 pm

  2. W's First Full Pardon For Anyone In His Administration Will Be Issued For

    President Bush Jr

Something tells me he'd pardon himself before anyone else

    Comment by KingCranky — July 24, 2007 @ 5:09 pm

  3. Maybe Bush should sell pardons like Bill Clinton did in exchange for contributions?

By the way, what illegal activity has Alberto Gonzales alleged to have committed?

Why would you insinuate Alberto Gonzales would need a pardon of any kind? Has he been charged with a crime, or is it likely?

    I'm sorry, I don't understand liberal logic.

  4. I don't think he qualifies for 'dark horse' status, but, it has to be Darth Vader (aka 'Cheney' to you neocons) who reaps the 1st full pardon. Justice, investigations, and time will eventually catch up with Darth and evidence of his criminal enterprise. If the D's were smart (yeah right)they would not reveal the evidence until after Dumbya is out of office (1/10/09), preventing a pardon. It would be sweet to see Shooter incarcerated.

  5. Harriet E. Miers

    Comment by Scott Langill — July 25, 2007 @ 7:10 am

  6. Miers. She'll be pardoned of the contempt conviction, then there'll be a legal battle over whether the president can exercise clemency over inherent contempt, which he clearly can't but the ruling will be in his favor.

  7. Dfal,

"By the way, what illegal activity has Alberto Gonzales alleged to have committed?"

That's a parody right? Besides being a category five idiot, he's lied to congress while under oath. I thought wingnuts were all about the lying under oath thing?

    Comment by ny nick — July 25, 2007 @ 4:11 pm

  8. Alberto Gonzales will be charged with perjury and will then be pardoned.

Harriet Miers will be charged with driving while Republican, then pardoned.

    Wait a minute, that's not a crime…………yet.

    Comment by Steve Sturdevant — July 25, 2007 @ 4:14 pm

  9. It will be a blanket party! Sometime around Xmas day 2008 he will issue a single, 2 sentence, pardon for anything anyone has done as a member of his administration or under the direction of his administration.

    Comment by Mark — July 25, 2007 @ 4:15 pm

  10. Can people be pardoned for being incompetent, or does Bush just give them the Medal of Freedom? Also, will a pardon get one out of being impeached, because that's much more likely with Gonzalez.

But the real answer is, Karl Rove for violating the Hatch Act. And he'll be pardoned before there's a trial.

There is no pardon for Cheney; Satan will be poking his fat butt with a pitchfork for eternity.

    Comment by darkwaters — July 25, 2007 @ 4:15 pm

  11. About the Pardon guessing game, I say Condi. Sure she hasn't committed a crime that we know of but it's just a matter of time before she strangles Robert Gates.

    Comment by ny nick — July 25, 2007 @ 4:16 pm

  12. W will resign Jan 19, 2009 and Darth will pardon anyone in danger of indictment (most of the Administration, probably). The the Dark Lord will shoot anyone threatening to indict him!

    Comment by Lefto — July 25, 2007 @ 4:17 pm

  13. Condi. Condi, Condi, Condi… just you all wait. You'll see.

    Comment by Kevin — July 25, 2007 @ 4:32 pm

  14. Hmm, so many possibilities..

I think I'll have to go with a dark horse and say Kyle Sampson, the AG's former chief of staff. During his testimony, he struck me as a guy that would be very quick to spill the beans if he were faced with serious jail time. I don't think we've seen the last of him.

  15. "I’m sorry, I don’t understand liberal logic."

    Comment above by DFAL

Logic is foreign to you period, DFAL, be it 'liberal' or 'conservative' as you are a neocon. Don't blame the lack of understanding on 'liberal logic', take responsibility for your own actions, or lack of logic.

Lastly, DFAL, damn sure don't let the facts hit you in the head. You may get pissed when you see the destruction and the filthy, nasty corruption that permeates the White House. NOBODY takes joy in all the corruption, other than Cheney (as Bush is too stupid to get it, which view you may share)

    Comment by Chris in NM — July 25, 2007 @ 7:51 pm

  16. Chris, that was sweet bro……..

    Additionally, Clinton did it!

    Comment by Lester Fields — July 25, 2007 @ 9:48 pm

  17. Bush will first pardon Karl Rove, postumously, after Turd Blossom being hung from a lamp post in Layfayette Park by an ever growing lynching party, led by Jeff Gannon Guckert.

    Comment by Mike Flagg — July 26, 2007 @ 8:58 am

  18. Sara Taylor

    Comment by Scott Langill — July 26, 2007 @ 9:58 am

  19. He's not going to start this parade with himself or anyone in his administration… that'll try to be made into a sort of "by the way" type pardon on late Friday afternoon, January 16th.

I'll go with Duke Cunningham or Jeff Skilling to get the ball rolling.
