Look for Bush's Ratings to Finally Get Off the Floor (Dick Morris)

@ 7:05 am

A combination of the charismatic presentation by Gen. David Petraeus, the Sept. 11 anniversary and the revelation of the effectiveness of U.S. homeland security efforts may finally lift Bush off the floor in his job approval ratings. With neither the economy nor Iraq on which to base an attack on the president, the Democrats and the left are running off past vitriol and remembered anger. Ultimately, their lack of issues may begin to catch up with them.

The Hill welcomes comment from anyone and will almost always post it whether it is favorable or critical, as long as it is substantive and advances debate.

  1. That's it! Dick Morris has finally, totally lost his mind. This is what happens when you are surrounded by Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham. One wonders what he has been looking at these last few days.

You've had enough Kool Aid, Dick. You've blown your mind.

  2. Their only issues are expanding government, and turning America into a socialist nightmare.

  3. Dick: Welcome back! I don't think the democrats will ever run out of issues because they are not willing to accept facts and are willing to outright lie to make up issues. Both parties need to backoff on the partisanship in general. It is a question of whether or not the people will finally turn away from the vitriol of the democrats. Time will tell… The President's numbers though are not just because democrats are upset. There are many of us that support the president that are still concerned about the border and Mexican trucks roaming our highways, and a lack of fiscal responsiblity. So I do not expect the numbers to rise much overall unless some unforseen action happens that the president is responsible for (like catching Osama) or other such events…

  4. Oh, right Dick. No one heard that the good general had no clue as to whether we will be safer by going into Iraq.

We all know it is about oil. If the Iraq government ratifies the 70 percent profits to big oil, that will be a hollow victory for Bush who has to be one of the really disdained human beings on this planet.

Bush will get what he wants, but he will get it by torture, allowing 9/11, and by the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people. I don't think history will go easy on the guy, and who knows, he may be the target of lawsuits and more by victims of 9/11 and their families.

  5. Dick;
If you think that the American people are going to be persuaded by Petraus lame presentation, you are drinking too deeply from the kool-aid pitcher. Bush's numbers are going to stay down and I think that anypne listening to him speak will turn him off too. Over 60% of the folks want our troops home and safe and all we want congress to do is follow what we asked them. As far as Bush making a case to stay, what color is the sky in your world.

  6. Well the economy IS likely to slow down, and Hillary is already starting with the "working people blah blah blah", but yes Iraq will quiet down, and you can only go so far on Bush hatred. That's why the Democrats are so desperate to enforce a defeat, to create an issue that will keep on giving until 2009.

  7. Actually, Igor, the Dems just have to wait it out and the Pubs will implode in Iraq.

Even if they sign the stealing oil contract, there is no guarantee that security will allow any development, and there is no guarantee that the oil profit will not go to the insurgency.

The Iraq government are experts in telling the US officials what they want to hear but then don't do anything.

  8. Well compared to the Democrats' culture of corruption Bush will look like a saint!

  9. And unlike Bush, the mainstream media is shilling for Hil, full blast! Man, the WHOLE system is corrupt: liberal Wall Streeters write $40 million checks to fugitive con men who donate the money to Hillary who is then displayed as a paragon of virtue by an alphabet network. Only in the liberal America!

    New Precedent For Campaign Cash

By Returning $850K Associated With Norman Hsu, Clinton Puts Pressure On Rivals

In returning $850,000 to donors associated with a disgraced fundraiser, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton sets a significant new standard for how campaigns should respond in the face of potential scandal.

Clinton’s decision also underscores the price - financial and political - that her campaign is paying for failing to spot trouble with the fundraiser, Norman Hsu, even after receiving a warning. The campaign announced it would now conduct background checks on its fundraisers, an extraordinary and potentially time consuming step.

By returning the money, Clinton also puts pressure on presidential rivals and other politicians with rainmakers who have dubious pasts or who have employed questionable fundraising tactics, including the campaigns of Barack Obama and John Edwards.

  10. Hey Dick, maybe there could be a false flag operation. Then the unknowing would support Bush in the poles. Not that he would need poles as he would then be dictator.

Or maybe we will bomb the crap out of Iran next week, and that could get the war fever juices flowing again.

Or both could happen, and then maybe all of us will be shaking our fists at Iran in order to keep from being spied on.

Have you shorted the stock market Dick?

  11. Sorry, "polls". I was tired last night.
