What's This You Don't Really Think This About Ron Paul (Hugo Gurdon)
Rep. Ron Paul's (R-Texas) supporters really wanted to make sure their guy came out looking good in our latest Quick Poll! They were surely much more interested in pumping him up than in testing the water. Our question was, "What position will Ron Paul finish in in the New Hampshire primary?" Nearly half of respondents (47%) said Paul would win the primary in the Granite State. Maybe I'm just no good at psephology, but that seems unlikely to me. Here are the results, listing Paul's expected finishing position in the primary and the percentage of respondents who checked that box.
* 1st — 47% of all votes
* 3rd — 17% of all votes
* 2nd — 12% of all votes
* 8th — 7% of all votes
* 5th — 6% of all votes
* 6th — 4% of all votes
* 7th — 4% of all votes
* 4th — 3% of all votes

What's This The Democrats Debate (Frank Donatelli)
Last night’s Democratic debate was by far the liveliest of all the encounters thus far. Maybe it’s because time is running out and candidates not named Hillary Clinton were desperate to close the gap with the front-runner. In any case, the dialogue was compelling and while Clinton survived the all-out assault, her opponents did land some punches that might affect the race, especially in the early-primary states. > Read More

What's This Hillary's Bad Night (Dick Morris)
Hillary Clinton finally got too cute by half in her explanation of her convoluted position on giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. The American people saw her tying herself into a knot over the issue, trying to have it both ways.
It was a moment in the 2008 campaign akin to Ted Kennedy's inability to explain to Roger Mudd why he was running for president in 1980. It was one of those few moments when the real candidate is on display and visible to all. > Read More

What's This GOP Do-Nothing Strategy Is Working (Bill Press)
Trick or treat!
For House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), it’s a dirty trick. The latest California poll shows her, for the first time, with a negative approval rating: 40 percent disapproval to 30 percent approval, with 25 percent no opinion. Congress, overall, fares worse: Only 22 percent of California voters approve of the job Congress is doing; 64 percent disapprove. > Read More

McCain's Goblins (A.B. Stoddard)
Remember that great moment Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) had at the GOP debate just over a week ago when he mocked Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-N.Y.) appropriation for a museum commemorating Woodstock? Perhaps you heard all about it during the Fenn-Donatelli debate on the subject on HillTube. McCain even got a standing ovation after he said, "Now, my friends, I wasn't there. I'm sure it was a cultural and pharmaceutical event. I was, I was tied up at the time." His delivery was perfect, the subject made to order for the crowd, and the moment will go down in debate history. > Read More

What's This What To Do About Iran (John Feehery)
Since 1980, when a religious revolution swept through Iran, we have been in a state of cold war (and sometimes hot war) with the Iranian government.
Iran has been the primary source of Islamic terrorism, supporting terrorist organizations that have targeted U.S. targets and our allies.
The Persian Iranians are predominantly Shiite, so they don’t play for the same team as Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda, who are predominantly Sunni.
But the Iranian government and bin Laden’s organization have similar enemies: The United States, Israel and moderate Islamic governments. > Read More

What's This Hillary as the Piñata (Peter Fenn)
The Democratic debates are turning into an “everybody after Hillary” version of bumper cars. Barack announces that he will be going after her in a front-page New York Times Sunday story; Edwards has knives about as sharp as Giuliani’s; most of the others have also painted a bull’s-eye on her back.
And, of course, all the Republicans are virtually ignoring the remainder of the field of Democratic candidates and concentrating their fire on Hillary. Obviously, they believe that helps them among the hardened anti-Clinton(s) base. It is interesting, though, that if they think she is the candidate they most want to run against, why are they working so hard to tear her down? If “electability” is such an important ingredient in this year’s election cycle, why try and make her unelectable among Democratic primary voters? Could the Republicans fear Hillary a lot more than they are letting on? > Read More

What's This With Liberals, The Taxes Just Keep Coming (Frank Donatelli)
When we last left the tax debate, you will recall that liberal Democrats had already weighed in with ways to spend the money that would supposedly be generated (a figure surely inflated) by canceling the Bush tax cuts. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) opted to spend the money on her Hillarycare II national health plan. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) opted to fund a middle-class tax cut. John Edwards has enunciated spending schemes too numerous to mention. Note that NO ONE proposed using the money to reduce the federal deficit, supposedly a high priority of the new Democratic majority in Congress. > Read More
