McCain: Up Against It (A.B. Stoddard)
It isn't easy being a nominee; just ask John McCain, who yesterday referred to himself as a "liberal Republican" and had to quiet the dissenting voice inside him before a gathered crowd on the campaign trail. "Easy there," he told himself with a chuckle.
It wasn't easy earlier this week when radio host Bill Cunningham went off on Barack Obama and McCain felt obligated to rush out a blanket apology covering any offense to both Obama AND Hillary Clinton. > Read More

What's This The Catholic Vote and John McCain (John Feehery)
“Most readers will be shocked by the clear record of history linking Adolf Hitler and the Roman Catholic Church in a conspiracy to exterminate the Jews.”
Guess who said that?
The guy who endorsed John McCain on the same day that William Buckley, the founder of the modern conservative movement and a devout Catholic, died.
John Hagee is an anti-Catholic bigot. He likes to the call the Catholic Church “the Great Whore.” Nice.
John McCain doesn’t need Hagee’s support. > Read More

What's This Does Hillary Want Democrats to Lose in November? (Brent Budowsky)
Behind the scenes there are some Democrats becoming concerned that Hillary Clinton is pursuing a wrecking ball strategy in which she knows she will not defeat Barack Obama for the nomination, but will escalate personal attacks in the hope Obama loses in November, so Hillary can run in 2012.
This is not a widespread view, and I am not suggesting it is true, but there are some who are worried about this, which is one reason superdelegates could move en masse to Obama, very quickly.
Hillary Clinton must be very careful. This view will not in the end defeat Obama, but it could do major long-term damage to both Clintons.

What's This The Experience Factor as a Political Tool (Armstrong Williams)
I’m sitting here gingerly thumbing through some old magazines and I come across a cover story entitled, “Up in the Air, the Game after New Hampshire,” where Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.) are respective cards in a deck to intimate the game of chance that still existed at the time of the publication. By the way, the publication date was Jan. 18! You heard right, barely a month ago and Hillary was still a tour de force in the Democrat primary. Her secret weapon? She thrived on the “experience matters” mantra, and it was working. How do I know? Everywhere I went, the rank-and-file Democrats I spoke with would cite that they liked Obama, but that a commander in chief needed the experience Sen. Clinton brought to the table. > Read More

What's This Scribble Quibble (Bob Franken)
You can talk about tax records and archival material that we want the candidates to disclose, but there are much more important documents that America must see right away.
Sens. Clinton and Obama must IMMEDIATELY release the notebooks they've used during their debates.
And Barack and Hillary, don't you dare pretend you don't know what I'm talking about. Each time one of you goes into a rant, the other stares (or glares) as long as possible and then puts something down on his or her legal pad. The voters have an urgent need to see what you've written. > Read More

What's This Obama Runs Well Ahead of Clinton Against McCain (Brent Budowsky)
In poll after poll, Barack Obama runs well ahead of Hillary Clinton in races against McCain. I give my brother Lanny Davis credit for creative spin; I am laughing as I write this. If victory has a hundred fathers, and defeat is an orphan, desperation breeds delusion.
Everyone is invited to check pollster.com and realclearpolitics.com and judge for yourselves based on the facts of the matter as proven by the numbers. > Read More

Recent Polling Data Show Serious Concerns About Sen. Obama's 'Electability' Over Sen. McCain vs. Sen. Clinton's (Lanny Davis)
I know that Sen. Obama is the front-runner. But I remain concerned about his electability. I find him inspirational, attractive, articulate and very intelligent. He has run an outstanding campaign. Close friends are ardently for him. I like him.
But recent polling data confirms for me, despite all the horde of punditry proclaiming him a "phenom" with stronger general electorate appeal than Sen. Clinton, that Sen. Obama is very vulnerable in the general election and less likely to defeat Sen. McCain than Sen. Clinton. And so to all Democrats – especially those in Texas, Ohio and Pennsylvania – I offer these facts and these arguments to take another look before you believe Sen. Obama is the stronger general election candidate. > Read More

What's This Obama's Experience: His Incredibly Successful Candidacy (Dick Morris)
The best evidence of Obama’s readiness to lead the nation is the ability with which he has run for president. After all, what is more difficult, complicated, or challenging than getting elected president? What other life experience better illustrates one’s qualification to hold the office than a manifest skill in seeking it? For anyone who has ever been elected president, the race that sent them to the White House was the single most important event in their lives and dwarfs any other experience they might have had before running. > Read More

What's This William F. Buckley Jr. (Frank Donatelli)
William F. Buckley Jr. passed away yesterday after a long illness. His voice is now still, but his legacy is intact. Bill Buckley was, quite simply, next to Ronald Reagan, the most important conservative of the second half of the 20th century. His erudite and humorous writing and speaking style proved that conservatism can be not only intellectually compelling, but also entertaining. He was Rush Limbaugh and Bill Bennett before there was talk radio. > Read More
