Growing Superdelegate Outrage At Clinton Tactics (Brent Budowsky)
I predict that sooner than people expect there will be major movement among leading superdelegates who are uncommitted toward Barack Obama.
It is increasingly clear to them, as it has long been clear to me, that the Clinton strategy of wrecking ball, personal destruction poses an increasing danger that McCain wins the White House and Democrats are hurt in House and Senate elections.
Stay tuned, I will have more to say on this soon, and predict we will see public evidence of superdelegate movement to Obama and against Clinton within a time period measured in days, not weeks.
I am detecting a significant "behind the scenes" change, in the last 48-72 hours, from a growing number of superdelegates who want the Clinton carnage to end and will soon be moved to action.
What is called the Tonya Harding strategy by Clinton will soon drive superdelegates to action to end a campaign that has now become destructive and dangerous for all Democrats.

It is Time to Shut Down Hillary Clinton
With Democratic race getting nastier by the day and Republican nominee wandering the world looking Presidential, it is time that Democrats brought an end to the nomination race.
Hillary Clinton is stretching her experience claims each day. She and her camp are trying to dig up dirt on the front runner so much so that it could damage the Democrats in fall. Hillary's trip to Bosnia under hail of fire has been discussed much in the media. Last night on Larry King Live, the renown journalist Maureen Dowd who accompanied Hillary put paid to Hillary's peace claims in Ireland. She said that apart from having tea with old ladies, Hillary had no contribution towards the Irish peace on that trip.
There is no mathematical possibility of Hillary Clinton winning the nomination. She is likely to win Pennsylvania, but she is 21 points behind Obama in North Carolina according to latest opinion polls.
It is time that a large number of Democratic Senators, Congressmen/women and party officials step forward and endorse Barack Obama in order to shut down Hillary Clinton before she does more damage to the party. Perhaps this is what Harry Reid was talking about yesterday.

That will be interesting. However, Rush Limbaugh's Operation Chaos will play a significant hand in the final hour.

I hope you're right! But what I'd like to know is exactly what they are waiting for? Clinton's nasty attacks get worse every day, requiring Obama's camp to counter- attack, and taken together, these attacks anger and discourage Democratic voters. Most Democrats are depressed. They have nothing to be excited about because Clinton is aiding McCain so that she can run again in 2012. What's truly amazing is that this is happening during a year that should have been a cakewalk for the Democrats given the unpopular War in Iraq, and the Sour Economy. What have the uncommitted Super Delegates been smoking? Are they crazy? I say they're mad if they don't end this nightmare in the next 72 hours.

Why would it be any kind of "danger" if McCain wins the White House? He just gave a speech praising more diplomacy and action on Global Warming. What's not too like? And where did your attachment to the radical Marxist Obama come from? Do you hate the capitalist system or something? Maybe you're afraid of a 100 year war? Don't worry, McCain just wants to stabilize Iraq and leave a small contingent. Is that so bad? Or do we need a genocide on our hands as Obama's proposed tactics (if you believe him and not Samantha Power in an unguarded moment) would lead to?

Brent, why should Hillary concede anything? She has almost as many elected delegates as Obama and it looks like she's going to do very well in the few remaining primaries. So, if this contest is going to be determined by the superdelegates (and it is), why should she get out? After all, she can also make the case that she's winning in all of the big states (like New York, California, Ohio, Texas, and she's probably even going to win big in Pennsylvania, too) and Obama is winning in a lot of small states that the Democrats don't have a chance of winning in the Fall (like Wyoming and Idaho). Why not wait until June when the final primaries are over and see where things stand? After all, the Democrats created this Superdelegate mess, so why not just sit back and enjoy this process you guys created? Finally, weren't the Superdelegates created to stop a candidate like a Carter or a McGovern, candidates that were popular with the far-left but spelled disaster for the future of the Democratic party? Shouldn't we be adding to Obama to that illustrious list of Democratic candidates, like Dukakis, Mondale, Carter (in 1980, that is), and McGovern? Don't count the old girl out, Brent. Hillary may just get that nomination.

Oh one other thing, Brent. A disturbing development has happened in that a number of Clinton's big donors have sent a letter to Nancy Pelosi, with basically a veiled threat that they will stop donating to the DCCC unless Pelosi does what she can to allow the Superdelegates and PLEDGED to vote for whomever they want.
Some of these people are part of News Corp and Fox Media. It's quite a who's who list…

I hope they do it soon. Hopefully, they can give Hill and Bill a few weeks to get over losing the nomination and they can try to seek the high road (we know that is unfamiliar to them) and support the nominee in the strongest way. I know that is, indeed, the "audacity of hope", especially when it seems likely that Obama will not want her as a VP and she and Bill's bitterness is likely insurmountable. Their response will show why she really shouldn't have ever been considered a serious potential nominee in the first place.
Comment by Sandra — March 26, 2008 @ 10:43 pm
I do not support Senator You-Know-Her and wish to see her punished — along with Senator John McBomb — for colossal ineptitude in authorizing Deputy Dubya Bush's stud-hamster vendetta against the hapless Saddam Hussein. The election of Senator Obama to the Presidency would effectively administer that necessary accountability to both of these pompous perps as well as one can expect in an infantile country like America that does not seriously prosecute its own war criminals.
Having said that, I think that recent public opinion surveys indicate quite accurately that the frenetic attacks on Senator Obama by You-Know-Her and her bitter-half husband Bill have done far more harm to their own reputations than to Senator Obama's. Therefore, although I welcome any peaceful, if not graceful, resolution of an unnecessary intra-party squabble, I do not fear a continuation of it as much as some do. I say this because Bawl and Pillory, the Partners in Pathos, have joined Holy Joe Lieberman in a parasitic, symbiotic relationship with their even-older Republican mentor, John McBomb. Therefore, any further self-inflicted degradation of the Lieberman/Clinton parasite will only weaken their hoary host, as well. So, I see things coming down in Senator Obama's favor either way.
I do not hope to see your diagnosis refuted by near-term events. I only think that favorable trends will not materially change for Senator Obama if the typical Clinton soap-opera goes on for a few more hours, days, or weeks. I mean, how much lower than the hyperbolic "Judas" allegation can old "two-for-the-price-of-one" possibly sink?
Comment by Michael Murry — March 27, 2008 @ 1:08 am
Some of us are saying “Hilary's chicken are coming home to roost”, I wish it were my original. And it's not only super-delegates. Today, Senator Clinton said that given all we know about it, Rev. Wright would not be her pastor, and she would left his Church. Ironically her former Church in Washington DC, Foundry United Methodist Church sort of walked on her:
“Clintons' former Church in Washington DC defends Rev. Wright
Dean Snyder, Senior minister of the historical Foundry United Methodist Church (since 1815) in Washington DC gave the statement defending Rev. Wright. You may find it also on the home page of the Church. While on it, also read his Easter sermon. It will fill your heart with joy. Why does it matter? Well,
Hilary Clinton and family were in regular attendance there during William Clinton's presidency. Below are two quotes from the page. Also see Politico.
“A STATEMENT CONCERNING THE REV. JEREMIAH WRIGHT
The Reverend Jeremiah Wright is an outstanding church leader whom I have heard speak a number of times. He has served for decades as a profound voice for justice and inclusion in our society. He has been a vocal critic of the racism, sexism and homophobia which still tarnish the American dream. To evaluate his dynamic ministry on the basis of two or three sound bites does a grave injustice to Dr. Wright, the members of his congregation, and the African-American church which has been the spiritual refuge of a people that has suffered from discrimination, disadvantage, and violence. Dr. Wright, a member of an integrated denomination, has been an agent of racial reconciliation while proclaiming perceptions and truths uncomfortable for some white people to hear. Those of us who are white Americans would do well to listen carefully to Dr. Wright rather than to use a few of his quotes to polarize. This is a critical time in America's history as we seek to repent of our racism. No matter which candidates prevail, let us use this time to listen again to one another and not to distort one another's truth.
Dean J. Snyder, Senior Minister
Foundry United Methodist Church
March 19, 2008”
“For almost two centuries, the church has been home to presidents, members of Congress, and others in public service. President Abraham Lincoln became a Life Director of the Methodist Missionary Society, and President Rutherford Hayes attended Foundry nearly every Sunday during his term. President Franklin Roosevelt and Prime Minister Winston Churchill attended a special service at Foundry on December 25, 1941. President William Clinton and his family attended regularly.””
Comment by Hanna W. — March 27, 2008 @ 1:57 am
The Clintons' tactics extolling McCain in comparison to Obama and using Karl Rove type personal attacks constitute disloyalty to the party. She is unfit to be the nominee. Now that she is personally attacking Obama for going to Wright's church her own attendance at the Christian Right "Fellowship" or "Family", earlier the religious home of disgraced former Christian Right Senators Santorum and George "Macaca" Allen needs to be looked into.
Comment by John P. Teschke — March 27, 2008 @ 5:13 am
Someone needs to end this madness. The Clintons are doing anything to win. Of course, it will be a pyrrhic victory. But they will not win and the Democrats will lose.

This week, Hillary, a consumate Actress & Mistress of Spin, (=s Phony) sat down with her arch enemey, Richard Mellon Scaife in Pittsburgh, the very one who during her White House years accused her of the murder of Vince Foster and said that Bill and she had committed 60 murders to hide their crimes, in an ill-advised and ill-timed manner to re-introduce the Rev. Wright issue — by the way, the very Rev. Wright that they Invited to the White House. Then they sent out Sen. McGovern to re-introduce the Gender Fight, so now we have a racial and gender fight to instigate more division while trying to Divert attention from her Big Gaf, the Bosnia Tale of Sniper Fire, which we all know now is a complete Fabrication told THREE times, which is a betrayal of the public trust and goes right to the Heart of character. They somtimes even Stage their audiences. They have been telling these Tall Tales for years and this time got caught. However, the American People do Demand that thier Politicians be trustworthy and truthful! And, if it was not for Rush Limbaugh, and Bill's visit to Rush during the Texas Primarys, Barack would have won Texas but for the 100,000 Republican votes casted for Hillary which put her slightly over the top. However, the Republicans who vote for Barack, genuinely like him unlike the Republicans who vote for Hillary, as a way to "bloody" Barack up, as stated by Rush Limbaugh! Interesting news — but not very surprising. The Clinton campaign sleaze strategy is becoming more and more desperate the more obvious it becomes that she'll go out in flames as the loser that she really is.
The Clinton donors threats to Speaker Pelosi are just the latest reflection of the nasty, pathetic gutter tactics that Bill and Hillary rely on in knee-jerk fashion to grab and retain political power. The Hillary Clinton presidential campaign — reflecting precisely the kind of people that the Clintons are — has never had any class or substance whatsoever.
The most amazing thing about her campaign to date is how successful they've been in flimflaming huge numbers of American women into repeating mindlessly the mantra "we want a woman president" — without even thinking about criteria such as qualifications, vision, awareness, knowledge, intelligence, competency, honesty. Duh — ladies, get UR act together — Hillary Clinton comes up with a big fat zero in all of those criteria categories.
Everyone who worked for the Federal Govt in Wash DC in the 1990's knows that after the health care debacle in 1994, the White House put Hillary in the closet for the next 4 yrs, giving her "First Lady" busy work to do. The media was there — why they now conveniently forget that is the question of the day.
Hillary's last 2 yrs in the White House alternated betw complaining about the right wing conspiracy against her and Bill and playing the grand dame victim of her husband's sex obsessions. And her career in the Senate since here election in Nov. 2000 has been as the Democrat's version of a know-nothing neocon.
Now THAT really qualifies her to answer the White House crisis phone at 3 AM!!
So, finally, after all of the primaries and caucuses are over, after being publically branded as the loser she is, she now can go back to being best buddies in the US Senate with her pal, the notorious shlemeel Leiberman, and start pushing with him and perpetual loser McCain for more US military action in Iraq, the way she did from 2002 to the day before she started her Presidential campaign.
Buh-bye Hillary — don't slam the door on UR way out.

More and more Hillary reminds of late Elena Chauchesku of Romania, operating in complete denial and insulting our intelligence with ridiculous claims and threatening opponents with her attack dogs acting like Romania's secret police. Tonya Harding strategy by Clinton? Is Brent implying that Barak should take cover if he sees James Carville with a club? What has the party of FDR and Harry Truman turned into? Time for respected members of the party like Mike Dukakis or Barney Frank to step in and convince Hillary to give it up for the common good. Otherwise, we'll never be able to fully focus on Rev. Wright and Obama's Marxist ideas between now and the convention…

The general masses of people in this country don't mind honest disagreements, but the personal level of attack is something we can't stomach… and whether it's right or wrong, the impression is the nasty, dirty tone of the Dems campaign is coming from the Clinton side. D.

What are the odds that Hillary, upon losing the Democratic nomination, will run as an independent 3rd party candidate (it worked for Joe Lieberman)?
Of course, this will guarantee a McCain win, but it seems to most people watching that Hillary prefers this to an Obama win. At her core she may still be a Goldwater Girl.
Comment by Marty Connors — March 27, 2008 @ 9:28 am
I hope you are right. I cannot believe what Hillary has done and what she is saying. She was in the position to really unite the democrats and end her campaign as a very classy act. I hope she can still do this but I am concerned. She could and should be a strong democratic voice in the senate. I just hope it is not too late for that to occur as this country needs desparate help. Another four years of a continued bush regime, which McCain's would be, would be utterly catastrophic.

Why would it be any kind of “danger” if McCain wins the White House? - Igor
Because the image of McCain as "independent" and a "maverick" is a press invention hiding McCain's lack of integrity and fortitude. In Vietnam, his captors got him to disparage the U.S. In the '80's he kowtowed to investment bankers, becoming a key malefactor in the Savings & Loan scandal. In 2000, Bush and Rove slandered and dirty-tricked him right out of the running. In response McCain literally kissed Bush in public every chance he got, supported all of Bush's policies whether they contradicted McCain's stated beliefs or not, and has recently been begging Rove for advice. McCain spoke out against hateful preachers only to uncritically embrace them when he felt they could hurt his electability. McCain's a wall of jello who'll be a pushover for the corporate lobbyists running his campaign who'll be running the country if the very old and confused John McCain moves into the White House.

The danger is that the War John McCain could start by continuing Bush's policies might not take 100 years.
And don't get me wrong - I think we would "win" such a catastrophe - but what would we gain?

By no stretch of the imagination was I ever one of the brave soldiers that protect us but I do have a minor recollection of being warned about the chance of sniper fire 39 years ago flying MAC flights in and out of Vietnam. It is not something that one forgets or misremembers.
If I had been a soldier- I would be INSULTED if the Ex First Lady implied that the Military would put her or her child in Danger in anyway. This is just impossible to imagine and for her to tell it with a cackle and smile…shameful.
At first, I was angry about the clintons RACIST remarks- then stunned when she said 'Not that I know of' referring to Obama being Muslim, appalled when she endorsed McCain over Obama…NOW I AM ENBARRASSED for those of us who are true feminists and expected to be better represented by a woman.
I do wonder after her mental stability..I know she is co-dependent and blindingly ambitious but this is no way to show yourself as a leader. It is A PITY!!

the party is destined to pay for the unpreparedness of the Clinton campaign to assess the viability of obama. and for those of you who believe billary could have ended this in a 'classy' manner it is just not in these two crackers to take the high road as they are so used to the gutter. I don't believe the democrats have loved the Clintons for a very long time as they continue to be an embarrassment to the party and I believe they will soon unite and get even.

John Simmons;
Who are these people you speak of? Most people, except for you and a couple of others, are so disgusted by the republican that they acknowledge that McCain is a lamb being led to the slaughter. Bomb Bomb Bomb McCain has no plan for the economy, no plan to get us out of Iraq, no diplomatic creds and a known temper. Without Joe Liebermann to whisper in his ear, he is going to say something so stupid that it will end his campaign. When Obama finally secures the nomination and turns his sights on McCain, you'll see his numbers drop and he will be this years version of Bob Dole.

Comment by caliban — March 27, 2008 @ 4:23 pm
D. Hatch, many of the things you say are true. This is not critical, but the last thing I would do is to criticize someone for disparaging the US when they were tortured, as opposed to John Kerry or Rev. Wright who had no such "luck" and still disparaged the US. And let's not forget Michelle with her hate, Hillary's "suspension of disbelief", and Barak's Kenya connections and the well known little symbolic outbursts regarding the flag. It's also rather one-sided since McCain did behave in a heroic fashion and refused to leave until everyone else left when offered that chance.
I don't agree that McCain is out of touch to the point where the whole country will experience a case of an elder-abuse fraud. I know all about Keating Five, and about an occasional slip of the tongue, but I see no evidence that McCain is a demented and corrupt walking corpse.
Let's look at just a few things.
Illegal Immigration. He seems just as eager to provide amnesty, but was forced to commit to some sort of sealed border certification from the governors. Compared to the Dems: slightly better.
Taxes. Opposed tax cuts in the past, but now supports keeping the Bush tax cuts indefinitely. Much better than the Dems.
Global Warming. Pretty much the same as the Dems, but at least wants India and China to participate before ruining the US to appease the cult. Slightly better.
War in Iraq. Wants to guaranteed that the country is self-sustaining before removing most of the forces. Wants to keep a small contingent indefinitely. Much better than the Dems who want to snatch a defeat out of the jaws of victory. Much better.
He is not a radical Marxist Saul Alinsky follower who wants to institute massive national and international wealth redistribution. Smaller chance of reparations, unless Crist is in charge and gets his way. Similar connections to Soros, but slightly less in intensity.
Overall, about the same but still better. I don't see THAT much danger compared to subjecting the country to a "let's see what a Marxist radical can do in four years" experiment.
Comment by Igor R. — March 27, 2008 @ 4:45 pm
warren, let's look objectively at the war situation.
In all the Bush/Iraq debate the following question often gets lost: is there a global Islamist movement (or multiple movements) of any kind supported by petro-dollars or otherwise targeting the US and the rest of the Western World?
I say there is. You can only look at the amounts of money Saudi Arabia is funneling into influencing public opinion in the West by financing school programs, building "cultural centers", offering grants, and otherwise trying to influence western opinion. You should also ask if Al Qaeda is real or just a bogeyman. Is there hate being spread in various places of worship all over the world? Is there an effort to muzzle free speech in Western Europe by threats of lawsuits, boycotts, murder, and otherwise? Are there efforts and Western acquiescence to installing Sharia law where it's currently not prevalent from England to Kenya? You bet the answer it "yes" to all of these questions.
You should also ask: "What is Iran really trying to do?". Are they trying to build up their peaceful nuclear capability or are they trying to build a bomb? Are they the main force that's keeping Iraq unstable? Are they the main supporter of Hizbullah and lately Hamas? If you think their intentions are good, let's talk about some bridge purchases.
And in particular, you should ask if it would be good for the US to just get up and leave from Iraq, come genocide, disintegration, total take over by Iran of the Shiite areas, and creation of Al Qaeda mini-states in the Sunni areas. I think the answer is also "yes".
So McCain would have a lot to think about. Given his torture experience and general aversion to useless fighting born out of seeing the horrors of war up close and having sons in the military, he is unlikely to just go to war for no reason. Yet if this country is in true danger, he is more likely than either Barak or Hillary to decide that diplomacy has been given enough of a chance and war is the only option, at least preferable to losing the country.
Comment by Igor R. — March 27, 2008 @ 5:04 pm
Unfortunately, the perfect campaign cannot crack the media's profit model of conflict and the illegal voter switching advocated by the media in violation of FCC charter. He could resolve it, and should, because this is what any reformer must neutralize. Give the media an alternate profit model. Get Oprah and her empire involved again. Start collaboration with McCain on a Candidate-and citizen driven, rather than media and pundit driven, election, tec.

Some good things have come in spite of it and it pains me to recognize the lost potential of this country and the lives that have been wasted, yes wasted on the efforts of a few powerful people to remain powerful. Ya, you repubs have always been in favor of deficit spending. Sure! Spend us into bankruptcy. Over a billion a week in Iraq and at this rate, we'll have no money left for Social Security and Medicaid. I know, you think this is what Americans want, but how many of them are depending on SS for their retirements now that corporate retirements have dissolved into thin air for many people? Anyone else notice that it's ALWAYS the a**holes who've NEVER fought in a war that are always the most anxious to get us into antoher one/keep us in one?!
Cheney, Bush, Wolfowitz, Feith, Kristol, Limp-balls, ALL the tools (Fred kagan et al) at the AEI etc…
And, Igor R.
Why? Because they know THEY aren't going to be fighting and dying for their bull*hit brovado!
