The Hill welcomes comment from anyone and will almost always post it whether it is favorable or critical, as long as it is substantive and advances debate.

  1. is the press going to let Hillary Clinton make campaign promises she has failed to deliver in the past? point in case is western NY. Niagara Falls, the city that houses one of the seven wonders, is in danger of losing its status as a city due to the exodus caused by the dearth of jobs in Niagara county. Clinton ran on the promise of jobs for upstate NY and when she failed to deliver she said she thought Al Gore would be president. pathetic, but she is spewing this tale in PA after promising it in all the states that are suffering from a loss of jobs. Will someone take her on?

  2. Kudos for reading that email, and largely agreeing with it. But your point that because he's black he is held to a higher standard doesn't make any sense. That just seems to be another indictment of the people like Mickey Kaus who insist that Rev. Wright will be Obama's downfall.

And lastly, if the email flow on the subject is starting to ebb, why not take that as an opportunity to stop talking about it?

  3. "Panama Canal Zone was leased by the US and was not US Territory. Second, John McCain was not born in a hospital on a military base in the Panama Canal Zone. He claims he was born at Coco Solo Navy Hospital in 1936. The problem is that Coco Solo Navy Hospital was not built until the summer of 1941. There were other hospitals in the area but not on the military base in 1936. McCain's birth certificate says he was born in Colon, Republic of Panama. The city of Colon was not in the Panama Canal Zone. Yes, the Naturalization Act of 1790 was repealed by the Naturalization Act of 1795 because it was deamed unconstitutional by its wording. The 1790 act said "natural born" … these two words were removed in 1795 because that was not the intent of the founding fathers. Are we going to follow the Constitution or not? This is not so much about John McCain, as it is about the Constitution. The only way John McCain is Constitutionally eligible to be President is if the Constitution is Amended prior to the November election. The legislation that Senators Claire McCaskill and Barak Obama are introducing cannot change this … their bill in itself is unconstitutional. Should McCain push on, or the McCaskill bill make it to passing, we are going to have a Constitutional crisis on our hands that will have to go to the Supreme Court. Here is one of the best explanations of the situation I have read so far - it is thorough, and giving McCain the benefit of the doubt, it was researched and written with the presumption that John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone."

    Hay-Bunau Varilla Treaty of 1903

    Article XIV

As the price or compensation for the rights, powers and privileges granted in this convention by the Republic of Panama to the United States, the Government of the United States agrees to pay to the Republic of Panama the sum of ten million dollars ($10,000,000) in gold coin of the United States on the exchange of the ratification of this convention and also an annual payment during the life of this convention of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) in like gold coin, beginning nine years after the date aforesaid.

The Zone was Leased from Panama to the United States for prepetuity and collected Lease money annually. It was not owned as a Territory or Possession of the United States.
