A Game-Changer, No Doubt (Ryan J. Davis)

@ 6:29 pm

Hillary Clinton and I finally agree on something. No, not her Republican gas tax plan, but that Tuesday's North Carolina primary is going to be a "game-changer."

Over the weekend in Kinston, N.C., Clinton said, "This is going to make a huge difference in what happens going forward. The entire country — probably even a lot of the world — is looking to see what North Carolina decides."

This statement echoes Clinton surrogate George Stephanopoulos, who at the end of March said that unless Clinton wins North Carolina he didn't "think it could happen" for her. Even USA Today gave the front page to a story called “Why the Democratic race could end in North Carolina,” referring to the state’s primary as "a pivotal final showdown."

The question now becomes, with a loss in North Carolina, will the Clinton campaign continue? Will the media finally start telling the truth, that she has no path to the nomination? We'll know more when the numbers and the spin start coming in Tuesday evening.

The Hill welcomes comment from anyone and will almost always post it whether it is favorable or critical, as long as it is substantive and advances debate.

  1. Bitter clingers vs. the racial identity voters: that's sure indicative of…I don't know…well, it's not really indicative of anything, but heck it's VERY important!

  2. The press has made Wright a 24/7 issue, much like they got in bed (embed) for Iraq vis a vis no vetting…conspiracy theorists are whetting their teeth about how they have acted like this has been a coin flip since Wisconsin primary…dark comedy…my son and daughter will ask me how all of this happened to a candidate whom was up with an insurmountable lead, whose only chance of loss was to have press tell the country it was a coin flip, hope for a 3rd Party implosion (it happened) and then change the rules (whoever wins the last 10 yards of the 100 yard dash is the winner)…awesome, incredible, sad, I am tired of the word "look" and "narrative"…I am pissed

  4. The Democratic candidates represent what is worse in America, turning people in victims as opposed to winners, whiners as opposed to citizens.

  5. RR;
    I find your comment #4 to false and a lie. It wasn't eh Democratic candidates (except one)that got over 4,000 men and women killed for oil. It wasn't the Democratic Candidates stubborn refusal to fully equip those men and women. It wasn't the Democratic Candidates that refused to fund SCHIP so that children could get health care. It wasn't the democratic Candidates that ran oil from 1.10 a gallon in 2001 to 4.00 now. I find that you logic is flawed and that you have drank the bitter and clinging kool-ade for too long. It is time that you quit and see who and what party have damaged this great country over the past 7 years. Also over 70 percent of the people agree with the Democratic Candidates. That makes you and those who think like you the whiners as opposed to citizen because citizen want this country to great again. You just want George Bush, the worst President in US History.

  6. The Democrats have a new scam. Anyone who doesn't agree that making citizens subservient to a monolithic government is bitter. It's laughable.

  7. The Republican have always had a scam. Bankrupt the nation, steal what is left and give it to the rich. Having a republican led country is the results of that. Look at what we have under the repubs, 2 wars that Bush can't win. Trillions of dollars in debt that will have to be paid off by our great-great-great grand children. High fuel and food prices. Loss of millions of job due to outsourcing. Credit crunch due to lack of oversight. A country that tortures people. Suspension of Habeous Corpus, which allows one to face a judge before being thrown away to rot in jail. This is the scam that the repubs have ran on our country.

  8. Mike Coleman: Who has been running Congress for the past several years and who controls the purse strings you are complaining about? All appropriations bills start in the House of Representatives. Please get your sophistry straight. As far as high food and fuel prices you are partially right. Republicans are responsible right along with the Democratic majority. Get rid of your blind rage and see the truth.

    Comment by Robert Rosencrans — May 7, 2008 @ 1:00 pm

  9. RR;

    Who has run the congress from 1995 to 2007? It was teh republicans. They helped Bush start and continue the war in Iraq. They failed to over see the abuses in the housing market and banks. They failed at their role in the oversight of industry. How many pounds of meat were recalled because the repubs didn't do their job. How many CEOs were indicted because local authorities had to do the jobs that the feds didn't? How many drugs that were not properly approved were recalled? It wasn't the Dems, it was your greedy party that looked the other way while America was getting Screwed. So don't talk to me about who just got put in charge, tell me about the folks that were in charge that allow this mess to happen.

  10. North Carolina results have been updated and apparently Hillary only lost by 11 percent, not 15%, but nobody in the media will report this.

    In essence, North Carolina mirrors what happened in Pennsylvania. Both candidates came back from huge deficits of 20 plus percent and got the final margin down to a respectable 9-11% margin, and in both contests, Barack Obama outspent Hillary 3-1.

    If you really believe "Will the media finally start telling the truth, that she has no path to the nomination?", then I must hand you the delusional statement of the year award.

    It is Barack Obama who cheated in the caucus states and the media did nothing to report the theft of a nomination.
