Hillary, Come Back to Reality (A.B. Stoddard)

@ 1:31 pm

I like the whole Baruch college bunker plan that Hillary Clinton hatched. Truly, to take your supporters and the press hostage two floors below ground without television monitors, cell phone or BlackBerry access in order to wipe out any news of your rival clinching the nomination is pretty clever. Bizarre, actually, but in a fun way. Let's huddle together in our own reality, one last time — Terry McAuliffe introduces Hillary as the next president of United States! Yay !

Hillary went on to deliver an alternate-universe speech down there, too, as we all know, but concession speeches are downers and this was a victory celebration, after all. I didn't criticize Clinton for failing to acknowledge Barack Obama's historic victory on Tuesday night. Why pile on when even her friends were mad over it? I even forgave that insurgent request, asking supporters to go to the website and tell her what to do next, which teased the Denver option, ever so gently.

But revolutions are for Ron Paul; with him, it's kind of cute. Not so Hillary. After getting the overt push from her own supporters to get out now, Clinton is waiting 48 hours and will give her concession/endorsement. Yet she is refusing to waive her right to have her name placed in nomination at the convention. WOW.

Does that sound like someone running for vice president?

The Hill welcomes comment from anyone and will almost always post it whether it is favorable or critical, as long as it is substantive and advances debate.

  1. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

And it would not be surprising to me to find out that Hillary may become bitter over this, although I don’t believe she will turn to guns or religion. However, based on the Clinton’s history, I wouldn’t stop looking over my shoulder if I were Barack. It’s not that Hillary is anti-Barack, it’s just that they shared the same anti-trade sentiment as part of the political process. This is ironic because this is the same thing Barack accused Pennsylvanians of doing as a way of expressing their frustrations. Now, both are frustrated after their anti-American campaigns, which told Americans that less is more in terms of energy and their lifestyles. It’s amazing that many Americans are so gullible they want less. Perhaps after the election, if Barack is elected, they will learn to be bitter and learn a hard lesson about wanting less. Will this create antipathy in our society, as there are many people who want more, and have always believed that is part of the American dream? That would indicate that Obama is not a uniter, but someone who will certainly antagonize large portions of the population who will see their energy prices soar, and will learn to stand in Disney type queues for any type of health care, and will be able to afford less due to rising food costs.

One thing for sure, there will be more than enough bitterness to go around.

Hillary is frustrated because she and many others believed she was gender entitled to the Presidency. Barack is frustrated because he may have to accept her as the Vice-Presidential nominee. Barack knows that Hillary would be hard to control and maintain.
Will this situation lead to bitterness by Barack and Hillary? That would be a bitter pill to swallow.

The only conclusion I can come to is that if Barack is elected, we will face a bitter future. Let’s face it together and try to be bitter but optimistic. Bitter, but happy. Bitter, but poorer. Bitter, but less healthy. Bitter, and less of an America. Yes, you will find happiness in your bitterness as you are reduced and marginalized into bitter flag waving bible-thumping Americans. Go forth into your blissful bitterness!

  2. No, Hillary is not running for VP, she's running for a runner-up. Like in Miss America contest, a runner-up could become Miss America if the current winner gets in trouble (racist tape of Michelle is uncovered, Hamas contacts with Obama, Rezko dealings, etc). In that case, Hillary better hold on to her delegates till Denver and in the meantime, do whatever it takes to undermine Obama's position so just before Denver Democrats would be asking themselves a question: "Did we nominate the right guy?" Really, if Democratic primary voters starting with Iowa knew about Rev. Wright, Hamas endorsement, Michelle's "being proud of my country for 1st time" comments, domestic terrorist ties, "clinging to their guns", etc. I have no doubt that Hillary would be the nominee now. She absolutely must destroy Obama's standing and get what's certainly hers.

  3. Hillary is a very "troubled" woman that boarders on madness! And, anyone who praises her behavior might be mad too.

    Comment by Angellight — June 5, 2008 @ 3:33 pm

  4. Misha;

Dream on. If anyone had a tape like that, they would have shown it by now. There is hopeful, then there is delusional. The tape of Michelle Obama is delusional.

  5. We are witnessing the end of 16 years of Bill and Hillary Clinton as the face of the Democratic Party. It’s going to take a while to sink in with a lot of people. Barack Obama is now the face of the Democratic Party.

This is simply an observation, not bluster; I was for Chris Dodd, not Obama. I am simply observing that Obama is "more alpha" now than the Clintons are.

Barack Obama can pick his own running mate, probably will pick a good one, and the convention will rubber-stamp that choice.

    Comment by Barry Schwartz — June 5, 2008 @ 3:40 pm

  6. Mike, did you read her college thesis? Would it be delusional to believe she is no friend of "whitey"?

    Comment by Igor R. — June 5, 2008 @ 4:05 pm

  7. Igor;

The rumors that have been floated is that there is a tape of Michelle calling someone "Whitey". Also her thesis has been available for all to read. Now if this is all you have, tehn go for it and expect to get laughed out of town. Cheers!

    Comment by Mike Coleman — June 5, 2008 @ 4:54 pm

  8. Igor, are you "whitey"? You are a racist anyway. Maybe you should grow up.

    Comment by Gary Anderson — June 5, 2008 @ 5:15 pm

  9. Hillary's reality is the Democratic Party and their standards. I refer you to the 2000 election when all the party leaders and their allies in the media piled on the theme that Gore won the popular vote and the election was stolen and the evil Republicans stole the election. They knew it wasn't true, because the electoral college is a Constitutional requirement and must be followed. In that case, the Democrats and the Drive By Media kept the country in turmoil as they waged a battle they knew they would lose, but they felt it was worth the effort to set a negative tone for the Bush administration. Now, as typical of all liberals everywhere, when faced with the same situation, the Democratic Party simply forgets that standard and comes up with a new standard. They follow the delegates, because that's the party rules, but what about the disenfranchised voters? Well, now they don't count because it doesn't fit in with what their evil plan is now. By the way, don't gripe to me about caucuses not counting. Caucuses are made up of people. It isn't a question of Hillary's reality, it's a question of standards. The Democrats simply make them up as they go along. Yes, I know the rules were in place for several decades. The problem is the Democrats have a system that disenfranchises their own party members. And that's a political reality. The amazing thing is the party lackeys just sit back and eat it up.

  10. Yes, Mike I know her thesis is available, I read it. Of course Princeton tried to keep it under wraps until it was leaked. I'm just saying it's not a big stretch to imagine her not considering "whitey" as her best friend if you read it. I have no idea if thee is a tape, it was hilarious with all the talking heads predicting it and then nothing happening. What was that all about? Feels like some strange manipulation.

  11. Let's get to the real facts here. The MSM are the only ones hoping that Obama picks here for V.P. Hillary thinks everything is about her and she stole his thunder that night, just like a sore loser. The real power is the DNC. THe hand writing was on the wall for the Clintons when Obama decided to run. It didn't even have to be Obama. It could have been anybody. They wanted the Clintons out, and every time Obama was losing the supers piled on for him after the Rev.Wright. She ran a nasty campaign full of race baiting and she divided the DNC and the fact of the matter is, Her days were numbered. No more Clintons, and the fact that he needs her voters to win is something the MSM is pushing, not Obama. He would like them, but I believe he is going to pick up some Republicans. Younger ones of course, not the racist hate mongers like Misha and Igor. When it comes to wanting change, there is no specific party, there's only unity. And the whole world knows that she is a nasty person because the whole world had Obama on the cover of their newspapers, with the story that she would not even acknowledge that he won. Everyone in the MSM wants her on the ticket so she can ruin him. If you notice everytime he's asked the question, he says everything except she will be on the ticket. They can read between the lines, but you know the media. They never acknowledge his strengths, they said she pounced him in South Dakota, but no one mentioned that he beat her in Montana by more votes than she beat him in S. Dakota. The MSM is just as guilty as Clinton is that night. They wanted to talk more about her than him. That's why I am so glad that people don't see the MSM as law. And to sum it all up, it was her supporters that told her to get out, reinforced by the senate.

  12. Igor,

Her thesis wasn't "leaked". Politico requested a copy of it from the Obama campaign, and, according to the website, received a copy of it immediately.

  13. This was a glorious moment in American History. Our racist tainted past had been vanquished by an intelligent, morally committed young man who has inspired us in these dark times. Hillary's hubris ridden appearance was sad.

    Comment by Lescoeurs — June 6, 2008 @ 7:18 am

  14. Why would anyone try to pressure Obama to make Hillary his VP when all she has done is attempt to undermine and discredit him the whole campaign. Let's be fair to him America. He just won and she lost. Be gracious.

  15. Again,go away Billary! We are tired of you and the Bushes! What will it take to get rid of the 2 of you! Enough! Its a wrap!

    Comment by coffee — June 6, 2008 @ 1:55 pm

  16. Lescoeurs, the only thing Obama is "morally committed" to is Marxism. The rest if fluff.

    Comment by Igor R. — June 6, 2008 @ 2:06 pm

  17. I simply cannot believe that Obama is stupid enough to want Hillary on his ticket. She brings nothing but old, uneducated, poor, white racists. I'm sorry, but this country is made up of many more different constituenties than that. It is time to step into the 21st Century. Think of it…Obama made the first steps to real campaign finance reform, and he is requiring the DNC to follow his lead..no lobbiests, and no PACs. A small step, but a step never the less. And he did it alone, and he did it without legislation. I am a semi-old white woman, and when I see Obama speak, when I hear his positions, when I read about his voting record, and his life in his book, when I see his stunning wife, Michelle…his sweet daughters, and I think of what they are sacrificing for this country, I am in awe. And I am afraid. But, if they are brave enough to do this, then I am behind them all the way.

    Comment by Marilyn Brown — June 6, 2008 @ 11:13 pm

  18. eye-sore, what do you mean when you wrote, 'the rest if fluff?' you need to go back to kindergarten and learn your words all over again.
