Obama Gains Support in Iraq (Bill Press)
What a coup!
Barack Obama may not yet have won the election, but it looks like he’s already won the war.
From the very beginning, Obama opposed the war in Iraq. Not only that, he proposed a plan to get out of Iraq by starting to bring American troops home as soon as he arrived in the White House, and then continuing to bring them home one or two brigades a month, with a goal of getting all troops out of Iraq within 16 months.
It’s a goal George Bush ridiculed as surrender. A goal John McCain equated with letting al Qaeda declare victory.
Well, guess what? Both of them suddenly look like fools. Because Obama’s goal of getting all troops out of Iraq has now been embraced by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. And, suddenly, it is Barack Obama, not George Bush, and certainly not John McCain, who is taking the lead in finding a solution to this long, bloody, unnecessary and unpopular war.
Which is great news because, with al-Maliki’s support, the American military can start making plans to begin the re-deployment of our troops, some of whom will go to Afghanistan, in the first weeks of 2009. And the Iraqi government will finally step up to the plate and begin to take responsibility for running its own country.
Isn’t it interesting that someone who is not in power can come up with a way out of Iraq that those who are in power cannot?
Which gives me great hope for the possibilities of an Obama administration. Just think. If Barack Obama can find a solution to the war in Iraq before he even gets to the White House, imagine what great things he can accomplish, once he’s sworn into office.

If anyone looks like a fool it's you Mr. Press. This is the worst example of spin I've observed so far. According to you Bush and McCain were wrong to get into this war. Barack opposed the war and the surge which worked magnificently well. Now Barack takes a trip to the Middle East, which is nothing more than a political stunt, and the press is fawning all over him. Obama claims he had the foresight not to go to a war we've been engaged in for almost 6 years. What foresight Obama had. The war happened. Lives were lost and observations like this cheapen those sacrifices. The War in Iraq wasn't some cheap publicity stunt to make Obama look good. But now that things are going well and the surge he was against worked, he's somehow a genius. You claim Bush and McCain were against a withdrawal and that's not true. The surge plan Barack was against worked and the fact that we may withdraw sooner than later is good news, not just a plan to make Obama look good. How disgraceful.

RR;
You remember "Mission Accomplished" don't you. That was a stunt for W. Also, RR, you are the fool along with Bush, Cheney, Rice, Powell and others. The war on terror was to capture or kill Osama Bin laden who, is reportedly responsible for the attacks of 9/11. Iraq and Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11 although Bush hinted at it. Also Bush said loudly that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction that he intended to use against us. On top of that, he stated that OBL and Saddam worked together. All of these were lies and many good men and women were killed over those lies. WMDs were never found, Saddam and OBl didn't like each other and Saddam ahd nothing to do with 9/11. These lies should have brought impeachment and jail time for all those involved but until Jan 2007, we had a republican rubber stamp congress that enabled Bush and now we have a congress that everything stops in the senate because it takes 60 votes to get things done. A new day is coming and the crimes of the Bush administration will be found out and those prosecuted.

It seems it would be prudent just to cancel the general election and put B.Hussein into White House now. Why wait until January '09? Or, may be Cheney resigns now and Obama becomes a VP to get some training, then just takes over from Bush. I becomes harder and harder to turn on a TV and watch this adoration of Obama on all TV channels with all these white liberals (Bill Press included) doing his butt kissing 100% of the time.

Misha:
It's hilarious watching you racist fools. Why don't ya just scream the "N" word and be done with it? "white liberals doing his butt kissing".
You are an unpleasant fool. And by the way. Why are you watching any television news? It's a sure way to stay ignorant.

Jim, thanks to Internet, Fox News and talk radio I stay very well informed getting my news outside of major networks, and I don't need your permission to use the "N-word" or any other expression of free speech.

Jim (#4), Misha voted for Bushy twice. That explains a lot.

Faux Noise and Rush Limpbow are Misha's sources of "news". No wonder this country is a mess.

I wanted to respond to RR, but Mike Coleman said it pretty well in post #2 -
I'll just add that RR's comment "The war happened" is a pretty callous observation; is no one to blame? The blood of a million people is on the hands of those who proposed and supported this war. It didn't just happen. Hurricanes happen.
By the way, I believe that Obama is smart enough that genius is not far off the mark.

Misha:
Then use the N word and any other offensive speech you want but don't try to disguise your racist bull as political thought. You can't. Everyone knows what you think and why you think it. If McCain weren't senile I'm pretty sure he'd repudiate you as well.
He's a coward and a fool but he hasn't been a racist…yet.

Typical Democrats. Now that the war is won, they rush over and take credit.
Of course Maliki is talking withdrawal, BECAUSE THE WAR IS OVER, you dolt!
So, Obama has to be pushed by McCain to visit Iraq and according to Mr. Press, because of Obamas presence everyone has seen the light. Seems Mr. Press is blinded by the light of his own foolishness.

First Obama didnot know anything about international politics, so McCain sd Obama needs to go to Iraq, now he went to Irag and it was successful, and now Mccain says its theatrical, has McCain lost his mind. Stop hating, Obama is BAD! I saw McCain dropping on step at a time off the plane like a 72 year old should. How will he make it till Nov.? Mccain and the Bushes must go away, I saw him and Papa Bush they look like the "Bucket Duo".

Good job Bill, great observation about the potiential of the Obama adminstration. After 8 years of hell, we need a breathe of fresh air!

Obama against the war? I guess voting to fund it is his tactical way of showing his opposition?
"Obama has voted for all of the president's war funding requests since coming to the Senate, and is poised to vote in favor of the latest request when it comes to the Senate floor this spring. Liberal groups have demanded that lawmakers cut off funds for the war as a way to force its end, but Obama has joined most Democrats in the House and Senate in saying he would not take such a move."
Of course foreign leaders are embracing Obama. Duh. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they'd rather have someone weak on foreign policy in office.

Smilinjack: Whoever you are, you're certainly an accomplished liar.

Obama will have us removing people from the roof of the American Embassy with upgraded Huey helicopters again. Pull out as he proposed and Iran will take over within a year.
