The White Party, According to Howard Dean (John Feehery)
This is what Howard Dean had to say on NPR today: “If you look at folks of color, even women, they’re more successful in the Democratic Party than they are in the white, uh, excuse me, in the Republican Party …”
Dean has a long history of saying stupid things.
He once said that the Iraq war was “unwinnable.”
He said, “"You know, the Republicans are not very friendly to different kinds of people. They're a pretty monolithic party. Pretty much, they all behave the same, and they all look the same. … It's pretty much a white Christian party."
He also said, teaching a class in Lacrosse, Wis., “"Now that we're on dog pee, we can have an interesting conversation about that. I do not recommend drinking urine … but if you drink water straight from the river, you have a greater chance of getting an infection than you do if you drink urine."
He said, “We won't always have the strongest military.”
He also said, in the spirit of comity, “I hate Republicans and everything they stand for.”
He said, “I've waffled before. I'll waffle again.”
He said, “It looks like today, and this could change, as of today it looks like women will be worse off in Iraq than they were when Saddam Hussein was president of Iraq.”
Howard Dean is the leader of the Democratic Party. He is the man who is the chief spokesman for the party, the chief strategist, and he represents the heart and soul of the Democratic intelligentsia.
So to sum up where the Democrats are coming from, you are a Democrat if you:
1) Are not white or Christian.
2) Don’t believe the Iraq war is winnable.
3) Hate Republicans.
4) Believe that it is safer to drink urine than it is to drink water from the Mississippi River.
5) Like to waffle.
6) Believe that we won’t always have the strongest military in the world.
7) Believe that women, who were routinely raped as a matter of state policy in Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, are not better off today in post-war Iraq.
Not sure, but as Barack Obama goes into the election, I don’t think this is the kind of messaging that he is looking for from his party leader.
White Christians (or Catholics, for that matter) who think we should win wars that we are currently engaged in, who believe in the two-party system, who believe in the concept of strong, principled leadership, and who believe that America should continue to be able to protect itself from our enemies, should think twice of becoming part of Howard Dean’s Democratic Party.
The welcome mat is no longer available to you. Sorry. Howard Dean doesn’t want you.

You pretty much went from being angry that Howard Dean misspoke (which he allegedly did in such a way that pigeonholed the entire Republican Party), to pigeonholing the entire Democratic Party. Pretty reactionary; this is also evidenced by the lack of any sources in your posting for all the "stupid things" Dean has said in the past. I'm sure if we looked at the demographics of each party, it would be primarily white and Christian for the Republicans, and slightly less so for the Democrats (look it up, you are the Blogger). This doesn't mean that people of color don't share Republican values, it's just that the Democratic party won't try to keep them from running for office. Isn't it funny that the best way to alienate Obama is to equate him being black with him being Muslim? This is a fairly straightforward political tactic aimed at Republican, conservative, Christians. It may not be sanctioned by the McCain campaign or the Party, but who ever is sending the chain e-mails around knows the demographic (at least better than you appear to). In the end it is just another signal to people of color that the Republican party and the White, Christian masses don't want them in politics. It is a shame that when a person of color makes unprecedented progress in the political system (representing a fair degree of societal progress), the simplest way to defeat him is still to some how alienate him by characterizing him as foreign and dangerous. The demographics of those who run out and get Corsi's new fear-mongering book will probably look pretty white and Christian. Wanna bet?

John:
I'm gonna sell ya a vowel. you make a comment about winnable wars in the middle of a ridiculously racist sentence. (Quit arguing, you are a racist)
We won the war in Vietnam the day the last American left. Thirty years of history has proven that statement to be true. Vietnam is a capitalist democracy.
If you consider a win to be the serving of our own national interests and security then the only thing you should be advocating for Iraq is our immediate, precipitous withdrawal.
At this point in history there are two international goals that will advance our security and serve our national interests. 1: The capture and prosecution of Osama Bin Laden.
2: Smashing OPEC.
Without a focus on those two goals there is no hope for or foriegn policy to succeeed

I'm sure that was no slip of the tongue. Howard Dean is an exemplary example of the idiocy within the Democratic Party. He couldn't win an argument with himself with two brain cells tied behind his devious back.

Dean is a freak to gets high from using offensive rhetoric. He should post on DailyKos instead of leading a major party.

I can't stomach the hypocrasy!!..The GOP has been using race as a tool for as long as I can remember….do u remember Willie Horton? More recently, the Call Me ad used against Harold Ford?
Now the current meme about Obama not being one of "us" who do you think the "us" represent?
Its a FACT the GOP is a majority white party that uses race baiting tactics to win elections, except this year..lol
Comment by Theard — August 16, 2008 @ 4:18 pm
THEARD: Check your facts. It was Al Gore who provided the inspiration for Willie Horton. Also, check your history. The Democrats are/were the party of Jim Crow, voting laws that prohibited blacks from voting, prohibited blacks from state run schools and colleges, and it lasted for over 80 years. Like most liberals you can't stand the facts, perhaps because you don't know them and don't care, because the facts would mean you support Democrats, which is just another way of saying you support racism. Amongst other silly things.
Comment by Robert Rosencrans — August 16, 2008 @ 7:06 pm
The obvious attempts by the politically appointed attorneys in the Bush-Gonzales DOJ to disenfranchise black voters through poorly disguised "voter fraud" actions was a blatant attempt to discourage minority and especially Black voters has been documented well enough to satisfy any but the most blind of partisans.
But then who could forget the blindness of Denny Hastert's staff, who apparently couldn't see the pedophile in the page's dorm. Oh, that's right, Feehery was on that staff, wasn't he?
Feehery was also with that great fighter for truth, justice and the American Way, Tom DeLay, before he got run out of town on a rail.
Feehery is used to shilling for those who would do anything or say anything to gain or keep power.
Why is anybody surprised with this crap?

RR:
Here's a little history test for ya. Name one successful public policy initiative advanced by any republican since,1981.
One of the "silly" things I support is competence. Why don't you?
Comment by Jim — August 17, 2008 @ 5:56 pm
RR,
I usually ignore your postings, but I will respond just this once.
Since Al Gore provided the inspiration and in the same manner we are seeing the McCain camp recycle Clinton attacks used in the primaries, we should all absolve the GOP from these obvious race baiting tactics?
Further, I am fully aware of the history of the Dem party as I am familiar with the party of Lincoln.

4) Believe that it is safer to drink urine than it is to drink water from the Mississippi River.
** I don't even want to know how you came up with this twisted talking point.

there's an old irish saying . . .

Anyone who thinks Dean mispoke, think again.
Comment by JFK-HRC — August 18, 2008 @ 11:46 am
THEARD: If you're familiar with the history of the Republican Party then quit lying about it.
Comment by Robert Rosencrans — August 18, 2008 @ 1:49 pm
John - Honestly, what is it about science that you and all like you hate so much? As Obama said, it's like you are proud of your ignorance.
Urine IS STERILE. Most waterways in this country are anything but. So, if that's actually what he said, Howard Dean was factually correct. Even your snarky list item is correct - it would be safer to drink urine than water from the Mississippi.
The quote didn't have Dean advocating drinking urine - exactly the opposite: " I do not recommend drinking urine … " If you're going to mock and denigrate someone for their words, at least make sure your mockery doesn't make you look stupid.
Comment by Melissa — August 18, 2008 @ 4:07 pm
Hey, Mahatma Gandhi never drank any water from the Mississippi. Of the two cocktails, he made the sterile choice. Put that man on Dean's list!
