PUMA: Party Unity, My America (Brent Budowsky)
As the lion in winter brings tears to the eyes and a convention to its feet as Ted Kennedy passes the torch to Barack Obama; as Michelle Obama brings light to the eyes of Democrats with an all-American story about the dreams that do come true, the battle in earnest has begun.
To those who say party unity my ass, I say, kiss mine. This is not about them, it is about America. The vanities and egotism and self-indulgence of some now yield to the war of the worlds that has begun in earnest. This is not about the Clintons. It is about the heart and soul and future of America.
Across this nation, as the lies and smears come forth from the forces of McCain, the heart and soul of America fights back from the good and decent people who say of Bush and Cheney and McCain and Rove: enough, no more, it ends here.
When John McCain lied about Barack Obama and said he would lose a war to win an election, the single mom and her teenage daughter fought back. Mom canceled Sunday dinner. Her daughter returned the CD. They gave another $20 to Obama. In their America, the big truth must defeat the big lie.
When McCain lied and said Obama would rather shoot hoops than visit wounded troops, the vets for Obama fought back. They gave a standing ovation to Obama's work for wounded warriors at Walter Reed while McCain lets veterans down on vote after vote, year after year, again and again.
When Cindy McCain smeared Michelle Obama, saying she was always patriotic and implying that Michelle was not, the office assistant in Washington fought back. She is organizing a rally for Barack where those who don’t have much will give what they can, to change the course of history.
When McCain lied about Obama and said Obama wanted to send political reporters and television cameras to visit wounded troops in Germany, the war hero who should have been president fought back. John Kerry speaks with integrity and passion and honor that this time, the big truth will defeat the big lie.
When McCain smears Obama, proud of his ads with young blond women and talk of "the Messiah," the Obama kids fought back. Throughout America they came with blue shirts and white pads, signing new volunteers and small donors who total more than 2 million patriots who believe that this time, in our America, the big truth must defeat the big lie.
The man who used to be John McCain in 2000 would be sickened by the McCain who campaigns today, and would stand against, not with, the heirs to those who fomented hate against Jefferson and Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and FDR, Jack, Bobby and Martin, who were all slandered by the haters of their times. As Barack is in ours.
It is a war of the worlds. Little people with big hearts, patriots who would lift our democracy, the kids who will inherit the future, the believers in truth and honor in politics are fighting back every hour, every day, across America.
It is a war of the worlds about the content and character of the democracy of our country. It is a fight to the political death between the big truth and the big lie, between those who would lift our country up and those who would tear our country apart. The stakes are enormous. In the land of the free and the home of the brave, it is the truth that sets us free.
Now the convention has begun; the battle has been joined. One of the great men who ever served in the United States Senate has lifted his body and raised his voice, and by doing so, he lifts our hearts and raises our sights. One of the great American stories of our time, the hard-earned success of Michelle and Barack Obama, is living proof that as the great man said, the dream indeed will never die.
So to those who say party unity my ass, I say, kiss mine. The battle for the future of America has been joined. We will win it with you, or without you, and will not surrender the future to the lies and smears of our opponents or the vanities of those who pretend to be our friends.

Brent,
when you say "Ted Kennedy passes the torch to Barack Obama" there is no better negative advertising for Obama that I could ask for. Thank you for defining Obama for who he really is, a more liberal version of Kennedy with anti-American followers as his base. Thank you and let's bump our fists on November 6th to celebrate Obama's loss and America's win.

Yes, it's an all-American story: an African polygamous Muslim impregnates a radicalism-curious underage girl in Hawaii and soon skips town after both of them demonstrate in communist-organized demonstrations. Mom marries and Indonesian Muslim, takes her little darling to Indonesia and registers him under her new husband's name as a Muslim and Indonesian citizen. When the little angel is twelve, Mom is a bit too tired of him and wants to dedicate the rest of her life to the important research work on blacksmithing in Indonesia, so she give up on him and sends him back to Hawaii. Lotsa love here.
The angel is soon under the spell of a notorious Chicago communist on the FBI watch list, a pawn of Moscow, but a wonderful poet. The communist stirs up some racial anger in the little prophet-to-be while the prophet attends the most exclusive prep school in Hawaii.
Off to college the now strapping young man goes, where he befriends two Pakistanis and visits Pakistan. Not seeing enough racism in LA, he heads off to the east cost where he explores the topics of abortion, Marxism, and labor relations. An exciting career in commnity agitation and radical group lawyering follows, with a conversion of this now life-long atheist to the cult of black Jesus in a church full of hate for the white man and America. He befriends two of the worst domestic terrorists in the American history, the leader of a fringe American Muslim movement, some reparation activists and a shady Syrian businessman. As the shady businessman finances his political career the little darling becomes a noted state legislator being active in infanticide and Halal food bills. Noticed by an eccentric anti-American billionaire, and soon financed by him to enters the US senate and makes one heck of speech. After 150 days of the hard new job, the now full-fledged Messiah feels the call to be President. With vague talk of hope and change he captivates the masses and knocks out the expected female nominee but with a surprisingly weak finish. Oh yeah, and along the way he marries a wonderful all-American gal whose main concern in college was how to stay black enough and who can't shut up until the day of the convention about how unfair her country is because she can only get 300K a year for some awfully powerful public relations work.
Yes, as we can all see, this is what America is all about: giving radical malcontents a shot at the most powerful office in the world. Let's dance to the soft Messiah music as we damn America and crucify the evil McBush. Welcome to the promised land!

Considering "party unity my ass" from a more complex angle of a gay community, I must admit that kissing Brent's ass is not an effective way to unify Democratic party. Such superficial approah would increase the crack dividing Democratic party's left glutius maximus and the right glutius maximus and make victory in November nothing but hot air.

You are 100% correct Brent:
"It is a war of the worlds about the content and character of the democracy of our country."
And because of that fact, Obama faces an uphill struggle. He lacks the necessary character, patriotism and strength to lead anything let alone a country. Maybe if he tried leading a group of people first he might gain enough insight and experience, but not at this point in history.
Keep up your whining, it's great!

Thanks Josie. I thought last night went
perfectly and I vehemently disagree with
many of the pundits who didn't understand
what was happening and wanted more negativity.
I also strongly disagree with A.B. and the
others who are in Clinton-obsessive mode and
dramatically overstate the impact of the
Clinton disputes. They always overstate
everything about the Clintons. Last night
was about Kennedy passing the torch, and
about humanizing Michelle. She was brilliant
and right on the money in every. What the
other pundits dont understand is that besides
Kennedy there is only one thing people will
remember about last night and that was the
Obama kids, God bless them, acting like kids
in a wholesome Middle American family. That
was beautiful and kids cant be programmed.
Every mom and dad in America would identify
with "Daddy where are you?" and the love
between the parents and kids in the Obama
home. It was a Biden moment, if you will.
What most of the other pundits never learned
from Reagan and Mike Deaver is that people
remember the pictures, not the words, and the
emotions, not the strategies. Last night was
perfect.

Very well said Brent!
However, MSM is lying about the convntion that Dems were not critical enough of John McCain and did not define him! I don't know what Convention they saw, but I watched C-Span starting at about 4:00 p.m., and speaker after speaker was very critical of John McCain and took every opportunity to compare McCain to Bush. Nancy Pelosi, Rep., Jessie Jackson, Jr., and a host of others. There was even a mini town hall meeting where those who answered the questions were very critical of John McCain! They were great.
I guess this gives them something to falsely complain about so they won't have to say how really Great Michelle did and how she did the party good.
Can these people GOP -controlled media — ever tell the truth? Or are they all a bunch of liars. This is unreal that our media has decayed this much.
And Joe Scarborough is Imploding with Rage and Jealousy!
Comment by angellight — August 26, 2008 @ 7:58 am
It's a battle between those who want and desire the federal government to control everything because they secretly believe the majority of Americans are stupid, and to those who believe people and local communities know best how to run their lives. That's all this is. The liberals look down their noses at everyone because they believe they know better then you how to run your life. If you believe they do, go Democratic.

Amen to that too! Vote Nader or McKinney and help build a third party that'll be a true opposition party. If we start NOW we can have a true "People's Party" within a Decade. The corporations already have two parties with well funded representatives. Our first step must be to restore the Fairness Doctrine so we can get our message out! Make no mistake about it. The two corporate parties want us permanently silenced. They're know our ideas would resonate with the people.

The great people of this country deserve…
…representatives who'll fight like hell to defend the Constitution.
…not-for-profit single-payer health care for every citizen paid for with a progressive tax.
…to be able to make a phone call or send an e-mail without worrying whether the government is tapping it.
…to forever banish the doctrine of pre-emptive war.
…to have Habeas Corpus restored.
…to never allow the President to have "Unitary" powers including the power to name any citizen an "enemy combatant" and thrown in jail indefinitely.
…to quickly put an end (100%) to our use of fossil fuels and build the infrastructure for clean renewable energy.
…to rip the airwaves away from the corrupt corporations and return them to their rightful owners, the public, and give everyone equal access.
…to have powerful monopolies in media, energy, healthcare, banking, pharma, agriculture broken up into small little pieces.
…to have corporations pay their fair share of taxes and tie up all loopholes
…To return the tax rate for the richest ($6 million +) to 70%-90%.
…Make hedge funds pay 35% instead of 15%
….Re-regulate all industry: banking, energy, ag., pharma., media.
Since neither of the two most talked about candidates support most of the measures support a thrid party candidate who does! You deserve it! Don't support any candidate who thinks you don't!

A saw a huge display of good old healthy American family values last night. Michelle is the real deal. That was a good start to demonstrating party unity, and how truly American the Obama family really is; despite the natering neocon paranoia.
As far as the paranoid neocons go; here, in this day and age, we have NATO falling to their knees, and the Russians getting up from being on their knees, and the neocons want to warn us about Obama. Why couldn't you self-proclaimed neocon experts predict Bush destroying NATO and revitalizing the Russians?
Jesus Christ you neocons are as stupid as they come.

Misha I have no interest in trying to persuade
the PUMA people. They are self-indulgent
phonies, many of them are Republicans, few of
them in truth supported Gore or Kerry, and
I know for a fact (stay tuned) there is some
Republican money behind them. There is not
a word that I can write, or that Barack can
say, that matters either way to them. They
are given far too much publicity by a pundit
class and media that has a Hillary obsession
problem. Hillary should tell them to stop,
but even if she does, they wont. But they
represent very few people. The more liberal
women and men who supported Hillary will almost
all support Barack. The working class whites
who supported Hillary are divided into two
camps. First, some would never support a
black and in fact did not support Gore or
Kerry and use Hillary as their excuse. Forget
them. Second, a larger group can be moved
on economic issues, but PUMA does not have
anything do to with this group and does not
include or speak to them.

While you dissect the campaign, may I throw in my opinion of an element that concerns me.
I watched the Bush/Kerry campaign very closely. What I witnessed was the media was over the mountain for Bush, as they are now over the mountain for Obama.
It seemed during the Bush/Kerry campaign that their jobs depended on the outcome of Bush's success.
I wonder why they are all in the tank for Obama these days. My feeling is they want to be an intragale part of a historical event - " the-first- black-president-of-the-USA".
I would venture to say that if Obama was campaigning as the 3rd Black Presidential Candidate - the campaign would have been covered more objectively and fairly by the media.
Many journalists are willing to throw aside the lack of experience factor and are engineering their books time-table based on the premise that Obama will succeed in winning the race.
The journalist's have created an industry of writing books from a journalist's point of view, which offers a lucrative and fruitful income. So much for objectivity, when the dog in the race is not the candidate, but the journalist's book deals.
The media has powered. The media dressed down Hillary Clinton from every perspective during the primaries, including covering her much less than Obama. Now they are shamelessly playing the same game with John McCain. The American public thinks they are making decisions about the candidates independently, but are they?
I do not blame Sen Obama or his camp of the mess in the Democratic Party. I recognise they have great timing.
I hope journalism and the main stream media figures out a way to conduct themselves as professionals. Their credibility must be questioned. As long as they are allowed to profit from their work, there will be imbalances, and zero objectivity.
Comment by JFK-HRC — August 26, 2008 @ 11:00 am
Very nice "the lion" of the Democratic party is one who got away with at the minimum Involuntary Manslaughter. I know I know it was sooo long ago….
Michelle's speech was OK, not spectacular.
Pelosi is a horrible speaker.
Dems did what they needed to do, but I do not think they convinced anyone to change their minds. Michelle had an opportunity to show the sides of Obama that only she can. She could have spoken and shared real stories about him as a father and husband. she failed to do this.

For the sad sorts that think "liberal" is a dirty word, look at what the neocon "conservatives" have done to America and the world. It's not surprising that the least educated, the least well-read, and the corporate thieves, are the supporters of McShame. If the neocons can keep Americans broke and ill (no insurance) and struggling for their daily bread, while they live in luxury, they will continue to do so. They control the networks, they have taken our rights, they have allowed our infrastructure to collapse, they have tarnished our reputation in the world, and they have cast huge doubts on who America is and what she stands for… torture, aggression, fixed elections, the near collapse of the dollar. Other countries think anyone supporting McCain is completely insane. Read http://www.theherald.co.uk/features/featuresopinon/display.var.2432465.0.The_unlikeliest_political_comeback_in_history.php and then think how Obama was treated on his World Tour. He was respected, welcomed, and supported by our allies that are disgusted and fed-up with the liars that currently head our highest offices. It's truly time to reclaim America. If we don't do it this year, we never will. And it won't be easy with voting machines being manipulated, with networks twisting the news to suit their overlords, but it can be done. It has to be done if we want America to shine and succeed. So ignore the trolls on here and elsewhere and visit Black Box Voting to see how you can help override the voting corruption, and we WILL overcome. We will bring back a middle class that has nearly disappeared. We will turn our economy around and we will strengthen our ties with sane people around the globe. We will bring forth an America that has been stolen from people and return her to glory. Obama/Biden 08!

May be there is some Republican money behind PUMA, so what? It's a political campaign with a goal of winning on election day. There are no silver medals for coming in second and the country's security is at stake if Obama is elected. Regarding those working class whites who as you say "would never support a black and in fact did not support Gore or
Kerry and use Hillary as their excuse. Forget them." You can forget them, but we won't. We would energize them to vote against Obama and convince their neighbors, co-workers and extended family (especially cousins in Alabama) to do likewise.
Comment by Misha — August 26, 2008 @ 11:43 am
FK-HRC - the media is NOT in the tank for Obama, and all of you that keep repeating that neocon falsehood are looking more foolish daily. McCain has had ZERO scrutiny while lie after lie about Obama and Michelle has been endlessly repeated. How much press has the Keating 5 gotten? How much press has McCain's delinquency and lack of intelligence (where did HE graduate in his class?) gotten? Why have we not heard more about Cindy McCain stealing drugs from her own non-profit? All we hear is McCain was a POW. Get over that - the Emperor has no clothes. Are the media covering the McCain's background with the fine-toothed comb they've used on the Obama's background? NO!!!! Why? Because the major networks are all owned by neocon supporters and interests. Thank goodness for the Net or we'd have ZERO accountability!

The country's security has already been lost. An all powerful President (Unitary Executive) can name any citizen an Enemey Combatant and throw them in jail, torture them forever and deny them Habeas Corpus.
If that wasn't bad enough we're at the mercy of nations like Saudi Arabia and China. If they decide to cash in their treasuries our economy wil crash into a wall.
If Saudi Arabia decides to make some other currency the defacto petrodollar watch the stock market fall 5000 points.
We're at the mercy of these dictatorial countries, one of which attacked us on 9/11. And the Bush administration kisses their ass on a daily basis.
The treasury and Fed have been printing money daily to postpone the inevitable crash. If they don't prop up Freddie and Fannie the Depression of the 1920's will seem like a party. That's Milton Friedman neo-con economics for ya!
I won't even get into the imminent danger of global warming and GM food to our national security.

Just one question. How does Obama do all these things when he plans to INCREASE the size of the military?
We already spend more money on defense than ever other nation on Earth combined (I believe 53 cents on every dollar).
If the defense budget is not cut by at least 25% IMMEDIATELY and then another 25% shortly therafter there'll be no money for any new programs or to pay down the debt.
We're heading for an economic Armageddon planned by the neo-cons. Why won't Obama respect his supporters enough to answer these specific questions?
Why is this ok with Obama supporters?
PS - McCain is batsh*t crazy and an even bigger hawk.

Yes, but as a percentage of GDP we do not even make the top 20.
53 cents…. You are referring to discretionary dollars. Most of the almost $3 trillion budget is mandatory spending for social programs and governement operations. The U.S spends 3.7% of GDP on the Military its low was 3.0% in 1999-2001.
Before you said you want the top tax bracket to be 90%.. what is the starting level of income for a family that you want this applied to, commrade?

The media keeps Hillary in the spotlight because they don't want Barak to be in it. That's their subtle way of showing their hatred for him. Luckily, the voters feel otherwise. I wish Chris Matthews would come up with some new talking points though. Who cares if 'her' supporters don't vote for Obama? He doesn't need the Clintons one way or the other in case Hillary hasn't noticed. The republicans are running scared because we are in an election where voters actually matter and the 'few' doesn't make the decisions for the 'all'.

This was generally a great piece for taking McCain to task for allowing himself to be brought so low by the Republican slime machine. This is my first visit to the Pundits Blog, but tell me is this Misha with his serial commenting for real? Can't he get his thoughts together long enough to package them in one message, or does he check in with you every time he has to run and take a crap? And he claims to be gay too, as another gay man I am so ashamed of his Log Cabin Republican sniping. Like the diehard Hillary supporters, it seems gay Misha would rather vote against his own interests than vote for Barack, the most brilliant leader to come along in generations and inheritor of the great liberal Kennedy tradition, of which all Democrats have a right to be justifiably proud. Go Barack! Go Joe! GO DEMS!!!!
Comment by Dennis Benoit — August 26, 2008 @ 2:05 pm
M.Richard,
Democrats are positioning their candidates to appeal to lowest common denominator, typically folks looking for a handout from a Government and unable to carry their own weight. Typically, these are not the brightest representatives of the human race, and no matter how user friendly the electronic voting machines are they seem to screw things up. That's what you get for catering to dumb ones because their votes are so easily bought (with my tax dollars). As Rev.Wright would say, "Chicken are coming home to roost…"

Yes it is wierd but I believe that the obsession w/ Hillary was their only way to "appear" balanced. They need a Democrat to hack so as to justify the hacking of the Republican candidate. That Dem just happened to be Hillary, thus protecting Obama from excessive attacks. The less attacks — the better chance he has to win in Nov.
…Then all the journalists can retain their publishers advances and fulfill book contracts.
I do not believe the Republicans are financing PUMA, it is more likely the media and publishing companies are doing that.

"Yes, as we can all see, this is what America is all about: giving radical malcontents a shot at the most powerful office in the world. Let's dance to the soft Messiah music as we damn America and crucify the evil McBush."
Wow! Talk about "Right-Wing PROJECTION"!
There are pictures all over the 'net about _Bush_ as the Messiah (here)
http://radio.weblogs.com/0107064/categories/outrages/2005/03/26.html
and here -
America's FOUNDING FATHERS were not only "radical malcontents" (anyone remember the Declaration of Independence?), but many of them were willing to beat, whip, and kill other men (slaves) to build their own personal fortunes. The Rev. Wright lived through the time when he would have been considered _A CRIMINAL_ for using a "Whites only" water-fountain, and he was baited into his ill-advised comments by HRC's blatant appeals to, shall we say, "white working-class Kentucky and West Virginia voters."
George W. Bush stole two elections, looted the US treasury of trillions of dollars, did NOTHING to make the 9-11 hijackings more difficult, lied us in to a war, allowed Osama bin Laden to escape Tora Bora, BRAGGED that bin Laden SENDING VIDEOS TO AMERICA on eve of 2004 election was "proof" that he (Bush) was "doing a good job of protecting America", and has spent almost 2 years of his eight-year term on vacation at either Camp David or his ranch in Crawford, Texas!
Oh - and Dick Cheney instigated the Georgia invasion of South Ossetia, and is flying there as we speak to bribe, er, arm-twist his puppet there (Saakashvili) to keep up the militarization of Georgia - for the $20-, $30-, or $40 million that will magically appear in his accounts from Cheney's control of the CIA/DoD billion-dollar Black Ops accounts.

I have a rock solid source who was present
at an event where Republicans raised money
for PUMA. I know it for a fact. My problem
is, I was told confidentially and gave my
word not to use it, or disclose this person.
However I am looking. I absolutely predict
this will be in the news, though someone may
get the story before I do, though hopefully
I get it first in a way I can use it in a
column. Just watch, stay tuned.

Misha, Scientific American has an article about the lack of security against hacking that our current system has.
Stephen Spoonamore, cyber-security expert, recieved a patch from a whistleblower that was applied to the Diebold system in Georgia that he turned in to the Justice Dept for investigation. A virus can be uploaded to the machines to change the counts and could explain the huge discrepancies between the polls and final results in both Georgia and Ohio.
As for the lowest common denominators, Limbaugh and Hannity have them covered.
Most Americans do not want a handout but an opportunity to reach for their own American Dream.

M.Richard,
that's an explosive allegation of voter fraud against Republicans that you just made. Do you have a proof that voting machines where tampered with prior to recent elections and results misrepresented? Somehow I just don't see anything boiling on that front. Until you have irrefutable proof, don't say elections were stolen from your people.

Dear Mr.Coleman,
if you plan to engage in a political discussion, please make an effort to refer to my presence in full as in "Metamucil" and not some "Meta" abbreviation. I did not call you "Cole", did I?
Comment by Metamucil — August 26, 2008 @ 8:13 pm
Metamucil, unlike the neverending explosive allegations that Obama is a muslim terrorist this does have a lot to back it up. It is one of the stories that the mainstream media loves to ignore though it has been covered in the British press and by various watchdog groups.
All you have to do is use the Google on the internet machine.
From a 2005 report to Congress from the GAO…"The American public need to feel confident using these systems-namely,that the systems are secure enough and reliable enough to trust with their votes. However this is not always the case. Numerous recent studies and reports have highlighted problems with the security and reliability of electronic voting systems. While these reports often focused on problems with specific systems and jurisdictions, the concerns they raise have the potential to affect election outcomes."
For you information, Stephen Spoonamore, the cyber-security expert that came forward with the information about the Georgia election, is a Republican.
Comment by M. Richard — August 26, 2008 @ 8:56 pm
Lj, I'm so sorry this country did not do right by you. I'm sure you deserve a lot more than you got and it's the fault of all those evil wingnuts that deprived you of what's rightfully yours. Better luck in your next incarnation!

Comment by sgurski — August 26, 2008 @ 9:27 pm
M.Richard,
So, like any new technology there are problems in the initial deployment phase. Nowhere in the above quotation I saw any allegation that Republicans subverted any of the machines, did they? The fact that it's possible to do may also mean that Democratic hackers falsified data to affect the election outcome, correct? Do you have any proof that machines were tampered with that resulted in election outcome reversed? If not, don't make it sound so dramatic, please because in 2004 Democratic operatives slashed the tires on some school buses used by Republicans to driver voters to the polls. Did it affect election outcome in that state? I don't know, but I am not bitching like liberals do.

Edgar, if you want to talk about a minor
relationship with a minor play like Ayers
many years ago, what do you think of McCain's
Keating Five Scandal and his relationship
with superwealthy, supercorrupt supercrook
S and L operators for whom he acted
unethically? He barely survived being a
Senator and got his fanny slapped by fellow
Senators who are not known for doing that.
Why dont you post the result of the invesigation of McCain and reminds us of
his conduct which almost got him booted out
of the Senate? Old relationships work both
ways and McCain S and L scandal was far worse
than anything Barack did. I trust you and
all the other Republicans agree, right?

Well written and perfectly said.
It's about America and the issues and defeating the corporatists who still want you to believe that money trickles down…
Ha. We all know what trickles DOWN… and we're tired of it.
Let's take back our country. Don't forget, we out-number that .01% of the top 1% who are the McCain backers.
Let's take back our country from the rich men who make war to make profits.
Let's take back our country from the lying thugs in the office who think torture is just fine and cherrypick which government "deserves" liberation based on whether or not there are oil wells or oil pipelines in it.
YES, we can.

Brent,
Remember the Keating 5 was 4 Democrats and one Republican. The ethics committee found much more wrong doing by three of the Democrats. Wasn't it only McCain who testified in the civil lawsuit?
"He got his fanny slapped…"
Really here is the rulings on each of the five.(Democrat controlled Senate).
The Senate Ethics Committee ruled that Cranston had acted improperly by interfering with the investigation by the FHLBB.[16] He had received more than a million dollars from Keating, had done more arm-twisting than the other Senators on Keating's behalf, and was the only Senator officially rebuked by the Senate in this matter.
The Senate Ethics Committee ruled that Riegle and DeConcini had acted improperly by interfering with the investigation by the FHLBB.
The Senate Ethics Committee ruled that the involvement of Glenn in the scheme was minimal, and the charges against him were dropped.[16] He was only criticized by the Committee for "poor judgment."[19]
The Ethics Committee ruled that the involvement of McCain in the scheme was also minimal, and he too was cleared of all charges against him.[17][16] McCain was criticized by the Committee for exercising "poor judgment" when he met with the federal regulators on Keating's behalf.[6] The report also said that McCain's "actions were not improper nor attended with gross negligence and did not reach the level of requiring institutional action against him….Senator McCain has violated no law of the United States or specific Rule of the United States Senate
Geez Brent you are easy to correct..
Lest you forget.
William Ayers is a non-repentent terrorist whose group bombed the Capitol building and whose group was responsible for the murder of police officers. Obama knowing all this had the good judgement to launch his political career at a fundraiser at Ayers house and served with him on Chicago Annenberg Challenge, in fact Obama chaired this committee.
Does this come in line with Obama's defense that he "was just a guy in the neighborhood"

Why are you trashing McCain?
I thought you want to unite America???
McCain will unite America. His own party is evidence of that and so is his longtime relationships with Dems in making the gears transmit results. While he has some blisters, he has shown great courage and tireless hard work for this Nation, this great Land.
Comment by JFK-HRC — August 27, 2008 @ 12:42 pm
Notice how Brent minimizes Obama's relationship with Ayers as a "minor"
relationship with a "minor" play(er) like Ayers
"many years ago". Is this an attempt at manipulation or WHAT? It's not as bad as the favorite Democratic tactic of referring to what Ayers did when Obama was 8, but close.
Ayers hosted a fundraiser for him in 1995 which launched his political career and personally contributed $200. Barack Obama was the first Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Ayers served as a director of the Woods Fund of Chicago alongside Barack Obama until 2002.
I ask all people who wish this country well: do you want a President who works with and has his career started by unrepentent terrorists? How did we wind up here so that the answer is not an automatic "No"?
Comment by Igor R. — August 27, 2008 @ 5:16 pm
Brent #53
Thanks ;Jon Pemberton. The truth gets lost on the elitists. They selectively block out what doesn't fit their story.
And Brent, to answer your question I think of Hillary Clinton's Whitewater Scandal and her dealings with superwealthy, supercorrupt supercrook operators for whom she acted unethically hiding behind her Law Firm. And then of course of a White House lawyer and a longtime friend of President Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton being found dead in the park. Not the first or last death associated with crossing the Clintons.
Comment by JEdgarSwoop — August 27, 2008 @ 5:33 pm
The convention seems to have the wingnuts out in fool force.
I particularly find it hilarious that a clown with the screen name metamucil objects toit being shortened. I'm sure he's just a regular guy.
It's also funny to see repeated references to the international communist conspiracy. Isn't Bill Buckley dead?
Has John McCain ever done anything except prove he can't fly an airplane and say , "Me Too" alot while his buddies stole everything that wasn't nailed down?
Comment by pghremodeler — August 27, 2008 @ 8:31 pm
Surprise, you just don't get it - STILL. I'm a Hillary supporter voting for McCain because Obama & the Dems were disrespectful of Hillary. As they treated her, so too will they treat me & all women.
The Republican don't like women, but at least their honest about it.
The Dems, lie, lie, lie. They say they are your friend, but actions speak louder than words. As they betrayed Hillary, so will they betray me, so will they betray you. Their promises, WORTHLESS.
And because of their betrayal, we are not free. So who cares what the bird cage looks like when you're in the cage. As long as I'm not free, McCain might as well be in charge. At least he will keep the country safe.
