Bill Clinton's Finest Hour; Barack Obama Takes the Torch (Brent Budowsky)

@ 10:40 am

It was a moment for the ages as Bill Clinton joined Ted Kennedy in passing the torch to a new generation of Americans led by Barack Obama at a defining moment in history that will change the world. There was wisdom and generosity of spirit to Bill Clinton last night; the kind that Kennedy showed yet again in his courageous speech on Monday night.

It was a historic moment, not only for the first African-American presidential nominee, but for the dream that rises for women, for Hispanics, for the sons and daughters of steelworkers after eight ugly years of insiderism, cronyism, war profiteering, demeaning, division, wedge politics, greed, anger, torture, hate, smears and lies from a Republican Party with nothing left but negativity and its nominee, the man who used to be John McCain, with nothing left except the poisons that the Republican Roves teach him how to inject into the body politic.

It was Bill Clinton's finest hour; a moment for the ages; a merging of the dreams; a magic that brought together the aspirations of good and decent people for something better, and something nobler, and something that is both new to our age and timeless in the American character, taken away by the party of Bush and Cheney and Rove and McCain, to be restored by the party of Kennedy and Clinton and Roosevelt and Jefferson and the long line of leaders whose torch Obama now takes.

The dark genius of modern Republicanism is to convince people to vote against their own interest through the advanced technology of modern media and predictable sycophancy of many of those in it, using weapons of fear, falsehood and fraud in which the lie takes hold, before the truth catches up, after the damage has been done.

The great light of the Democratic Party at its best is to unite people behind their higher hopes and truest interests through a politics of aspiration, and unity, and ideals, that rallies the better angels of our nature, and lifts the nation to common purpose.

It was Bill Clinton's finest hour. It was a great night for Democrats. It was a great night for the dream. It was a great night for America. It was great night for the young who will inherit the world, and the old, whose trust must be fulfilled to leave the young a better world then they inherited, a trust that has been lost in the last eight years, and must be regained again.

Now the fight begins in earnest for the heart and soul and future of America.

  1. Brent;

The speeches last night by John Kerry, Bill Clinton and Joe Biden had me fired up all night. I saw for the first time the strenght of teh Democratic Party at work and I know that we, as a party, will have a landslide win come November 4th and I'm going to do my best to help.

  2. McCain's pathetic leaking of the VP later
today is a sign of panic that the convention
is going great. I love it. Their actions
belie their words. It does not matter a whit
what McCain does today. The huge audience
will watch Barack and how it works is 100%
determined by how he does. I think McCain
should run with Karl Rove as VP, to make it
    official!

  3. Don't know about you folks, but I teared up a few times as the torch was passed to a new generation lead by Barack "Greek God of Change" Obama. While egomaniac John McCain would use that torch to torture our friends at Guantanamo, Barack would use it for peace and hope.

Aren't we just blessed that a politician of Barack's caliber rose through the ranks and followed in footsteps of Jessy Jackson, Harold Washington, Rev. Wright, Louis Farrakhan, Charlie Rangel, and Gus Savitch to name just a few.

Tonight, Barack "The Zeous" of Chicago will address his followers to call for change from the newly completed temple at the Mile High Stadium (although temple is only 10cm deep, just like many of Barack's ideas).

He'll promise new means of generating income for those who were too lazy to invest into good education, get ahead at work or just dumb, i.e. by taxing those greedy rich who simply don't want to sell their Lexus SUVs and donate the proceeds for Barack's brown shirt pioneers.

I am hoping that Bill Clinton's torch with flames from Chinese Communist party would be taken over the Barack's Temple where thousands of new, smaller torches would be lit to launch a spectacular torch march in the finest traditions of Nuremberg, Munich, and other German cities where they like fine speakers and night time torch rallies.

But that's not all. There are plans to organize "spontaneous" book burning parties of Ann Coulter and other criminals who don't want to see in Barack the son of Greek God of Change and Hope.

The re-education camps for these bandits would begin January 30th, 2009 immediately after Barack's entrance in a newly painted Purple House.

And where are all these big stars at his convention everyone talking about,
All I heard was alot of Earth wind & Fire old crap,, I thought this convention was for all American not just the Black Community,,

  5. Misha, not sure you're aware of it, but the
Republican nominee is John McCain, and just
wondering if you can fake even one nice
sentence about your admiration for him and
why he would make a good president, haha. Who
do you think you are persuading with these
nursery school level insults of Barack? This
is exactly what people are sick of, after eight
years of this stuff from Bush. If McCain had
run in 2008 the way he ran in 2000, he would
probably win big. Though I suspect what we
have now, is a bad act that repels in 2008,
compared to a bad act that attracted in 2000,
from a guy who doesn't know who he is any
more than he knows how many homes he owns.

  6. Misha;

You wrote all of that to say what? Your republican party is responsible for Obama. Your party of old white men screwed this country good. As said last night, over that past few years American have worked harder and produced more and what did they get in return, statnant wages, no healthcare, two wars, trillions of new debt, higher education cost and teh loss of our leadership in the world. You can spout all the nonsense you want but the truth is that your party burned America and rape the treasury and pillage teh good will of our friend and allies. Your party, through cronyism, greed, extremism, incompetence and plain stupidity has wrecked this country for years to come. You used the fear of 9/11 to push through policies that benefited teh well-off to the expense of teh greater good. I have not flown on a commercial airline since 9/11 and from what I'm hearing I haen't missed much. Why would I want to be body searched or have my laptop taken and the info given to the Goverment. that is what your party did to us and we don't like it. You can spew your inane quotes about re-education camps but it was Bush that instituted teh first American Gulag. It was your party that wants to kill first before talking and it was your party that took away the great Writ via John McCain and the Military Commissions act. Misha, I can see how you can spew what you do, Your party educated you very well.

  7. Paul V:

Do you rally believe that crap you wrote because if you do you need help and I don't think that there is anyone here to help you. You must be a republican cause only a repub that watches FOX Noise or listens to Rush or Insannity could write something like that. We Dems are really having fun at your expense. You have an old wrinkly white guy with no ideas, no honor and more lobbyist on his payroll than GE who wants to be president and the only reason that it is close is because NBC, ABC, CNN and FOX are owned by major comapnies who are scared sh*tless that a new day is coming. Keep it up though, you're going to be put in the same class as Misha, Igor, RR and Jon.

  8. Brent,

I have no illusions about John McCain, not very excited about him or entire Republican field in general. However, I think McCain will be a good caretaker President for 4 years until someone new comes in from Democratic & Republican sides. Obama does not have much to bite into given his thin resume. That is why I like to make fun of him and his supporters given his way of presenting himself. I also think it's dangerous for this country to put him in a White House. Seriously Brent. I study history a lot, it's very dangerous.

    Comment by Misha — August 28, 2008 @ 1:58 pm

  9. Mike Coleman,

if folks like you stop flying commercial airlines for good, it would actually improve our safety.

    Comment by Misha — August 28, 2008 @ 2:04 pm

  10. It's amazing how many people adore an unconvincing but admitted felon like William Jefferson Clinton. Where's OJ Simpson in all the fun and festivities? He would fit right in. If the speeches don't fit you must simply quit. And the speeches, while long winded and prosaic in some ways, didn't project a vision of the future, but simply sunk into the mudhole of present day animosities where the current President is held up to a venue of hate, paling only in comparison to the venue of cover up about Barack Obama trumpeted by pundits and the general media. Here's a link that claims Barack is trying to shut down an ad linking him to William Ayres. When I observed your phrase, "Passing the torch" I assumed that is what you meant, that Obama is passing a torch to his terrorist friends so they can continue in their efforts to destroy American.

  11. Any attempt to call attention to the basic facts about Obama is now called "negativity". And how can we be negative about a man of such accomplishments? You say no accomplishments? How could you? He went to Harvard and you know is the first African-American to be a Presidential nominee by a major party. So you see, we should elect Obama because he has accomplished a nomination. Totally clear.

Any attempt to point out that America has and always had a capitalist system that created the material abundance we see is portrayed as an attempt to keep the fat cats feasting on the labor of the masses. This Marxist nonsense is too silly to rebut and yet it's repeated here over and over again. And we are told over and over that we must believe that Obama is fully capable of accomplishing some magical transformation of the American society based on…I don't know, Bill Clinton saying he is ready???

  12. Misha;

John McCain a good caretaker! Please, his own republican colleagues have said that McCain having his hand on the button scare the hel out of them. A good caretaker! His temper is legend and the many Senators that have problem with him have all said that he is unfit for command. You are simply delusional.

    Comment by Mike Coleman — August 28, 2008 @ 2:53 pm

  13. Robert and Igor, do you guys actually believe
that stuff? You sound like the right wing of
the John Birch society, haha. Just out of
curiosity, do you have any formal affiliation
with the Republican party or an elected or
    partisan official thereof? Just wondering
where you get your "information" and who is
putting you up to this stuff……

    Comment by Brent — August 28, 2008 @ 3:24 pm

  14. Food for thought:

As we prepare to watch Barack's speech on the final night of the convention, commonly referred as "Soul Train 2008″, I recalled Democrats' strange obsession with calling Republicans by their full names, i.e. George Herbert Walker Bush, Pierre S. Du Pont IV, and so on.

Would anyone, anyone, one person in the hall or on TV would have the guts to call Barack by his full name?

If not, Brent can you explain why not?

    Comment by Misha — August 28, 2008 @ 7:08 pm

  15. C'mon Misha, the only people who care about
Barack's middle name are the bigot players.

    Comment by Brent — August 28, 2008 @ 9:35 pm

  16. Misha:
Soul Train? You sir, are a racist.
This is an election for the presidency of the United States of America. Your comments are an insult to the country you claim to want to better. You are an insult to your fellow citizens.

  17. "I recalled Democrats' strange obsession with calling Republicans by their full names, i.e. George Herbert Walker Bush, Pierre S. Du Pont IV, and so on."

Pierre S. Du Pont was his full name? Who gave their child a middle name of S.? And how else do you suggest that we respectfully distinguish father and son presidents who share the same name? Maybe you'd prefer that we let it all hang out and call the younger Bush for what he *really* is?

The point I'm trying to make, Misha U. R. Delusional, is that your "recollection" is a really lame bait tactic.

gee paul you must've skipped a few grades in school like many of your fellow republicans? don't despair, president obama's education policy will surely help you with all your mental deficiencies.

  19. pghremodeler,

I know a "Soul Train" when I see one on TV, but I won't pay to finance it.

    Comment by Misha — August 29, 2008 @ 2:09 am

  20. Melissa,

Did you need to distinguish Bill Clinton from his father? Yet, he was referred to as William Jefferson Clinton by Democrats. Therefore, why are you so afraid to introduce the middle name "Hussein" to folks in Ohio?

    Comment by Misha — August 29, 2008 @ 2:11 am

  21. Brent: You don't have to be a member of the John Birch Society to know that Bill Clinton is an admitted liar and felon. He lied to a Grand Jury, that's a fact, and if knowing it makes you a member of the John Birch Society, then everyone is a member, including you. I'm not surprised liberals in all their glory respect that about Bill Clinton. However, you don't have to be part of any political movement to note, speak or write the truth. As far as anyone "putting us up to this" I've never needed a teleprompter to make my points, and I've never needed a group to have a political movement. It's amazing how paranoid some people are about the truth. It's all part of the Washington cynical mindset where the average citizen can't have an opinion simply because they are concerned, as opposed to being bribed, corrupted or secretly paid.

  22. Republicans are now in panic. Democratic
convention blew them away and they know it.
Their demeaning attacks failed and they know
it. It is not true that McCain picked his
VP yesterday as they claimed. After Baracks
blowout speech they are stunned and regrouping.

    Comment by Brent — August 29, 2008 @ 9:38 am

  23. "Did you need to distinguish Bill Clinton from his father? Yet, he was referred to as William Jefferson Clinton by Democrats."

Wow, another great revelation from Misha's alternate universe! LOL

I can keep this simple for you: The only title of address you need to remember is "President Obama." Get used to it, Misha.

    Comment by Melissa — August 29, 2008 @ 9:52 am

  24. Melissa, don't count your chicken yet. For now, it's Jr. Senator from Illinois Barack Hussein Obama, son of a runaway Marxist scum from Kenya, a Muslim who impregnate native white girl and ran away from a family to avoid supporting his young son. Sounds impressive? It does to me, :)
