Weigh in on the Obama Speech in Real Time (Jim Mills)
So here we are. Hard to believe that this night has finally come. Barack Obama has little to prove when it comes to giving a speech. He is a master orator and his speech four years ago at the convention in Boston proved it. Sure, there is more to leading a great nation than giving a good speech, but being able to move and inspire people with eloquent words is no trivial matter, so let's watch this speech together and then share your thoughts in real time in this space. Tonight's speech will be talked about for weeks to come. Let's begin the discussion tonight. Right here. Right now.

I highly doubt tonights speech will be talked about for weeks to come. I was expecting an A and got a B-minus. The thing that made my ears piped up a little was when he said he would set a goal as president to end our dependence on middle east oil in ten years. That's very akin to Kennedy's challenge to put a man on the moon before the decade is out and return him safely to Earth. The speech neeeded a little more of that. Some serious goals with serious time frames. It was a historic night, he's the nominee, the real campaign begins, and it's less than one month until the first debate. I would not expect too much of a bounce out of this convention

I was moved by Obama tonight! I have not seen such charisma since JFK ran for office. I was just a child, but I remember the excitement,..the air was electrically charged, and the same feeling happened to me tonight!
America needs to wake up! They also need to learn, to listen. Yes, Obama said he would raise taxes, but he also said he would not raise taxes on the already over-taxed, and burdened middle class. He will raise taxes on the over-privileged, blood-sucking, rich. The 1% of Americans, who by virtue of making too much money, pay no taxes at all! This is not the America I grew up in.
Wake up folks. If we do not elect Obama, we will be effectively sentencing the middlle class, to a jail sentence, lasting the next four years. One that requires hard work, blood, and sweat, just as jail,..but returns 'nothing' of value.
We will continue to be poor, we will not be able to educate out children, and the rich will get richer,…while standing our our backs! Our homes will continue to devalue, as our savings disappear to support less and less.
We need Obama! Since Clinton, there have been no great Presidents. Bush won his Presidency by birth-right,…not by earning it.
If you fall for the rhetoric, and fear mongering of the Repukes,..that's what you will get,..re-hashed-puke.
The middle class is in jeopardy. We are quickly, and surely, under the auspices of the Repukes, becoming a two-class society. The rich and the poor.
Don't kid yourself. If you work for living, you need to vote Democratic. If you own your own business, you need to vote Repuke. However, I know most of us do not own businesses, successful,..therefore,…whereare all your Dems? Why continue to lie to yourselves? Why pretend that this country is in good shape, when it is failing?
Stop listening to the Repuke lies. We do not need another Bush in the White House! We need opportunities for all,..not just for the few (Repukes).
We are not a country run by "Royals",..yet, if the Repukes continue to control our lives, and rob us of our voice, we will soon see the elimination of voting for our elected officials. They will, indeed, be 'born to it', which I believe the rich would relish.
Do not give up what our forefathers fought for,..freedom for ALL, not just the few. The right to vote, the right to work, and raise our children in a safe, decent, society, with opportunities for EVERYONE,..NOT just the few!!!
WAKE UP AMERICA, or it will be too late, and many will suffer, and we've already suffered enough under the fist of the Repukes!!!

The man will be the next president.
It was appropriate that a man who happens to be black gave that speech on the 45th anniversary of the Rev Dr King's speech.
In the following days you will hear things said by people who will be judged on the content of their character.
The man spoke to the intelligent and the decent among us.
I pray for myself and my grandchildren and our country that for once that will be a majority

k_8_2, while I agree that Americans need to wake up and smell the coffee let me argue that small business owners and entreprenuers will be better served by the Democratic Party. We all have to come together to clean up this mess and the first step is to ignore the voices who's bread and butter is divisiveness.
It means reaching out to those McCain supporters around us and to keep reaching, and saying, forget the talking points, our country is in trouble and WE as Americans can fix it together.
