Why is Max Cleland Silent on Attacks on McCain's Service? (Doug Heye)
"I honor John McCain's service to our country. You know, he served in uniform with honor and distinction. We owe him gratitude for that," Barack Obama told a Montana audience comprised of military veterans and families last month.
But now Obama is doing anything but honoring McCain's service — Obama is using McCain's time in the Hanoi Hilton and the injuries McCain received at the hands of the Viet Cong against him. In their cynical attempt to say John McCain is too old to be president without actually saying it, Barack Obama is running an ad criticizing McCain because he is unable to send an e-mail or use a computer.
We've known for several years that McCain cannot use a computer keyboard. In 2000, The Boston Globe noted, "McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes."
That same year, Jacob Weisberg, now enthusiastically pro-Obama, wrote of McCain, "because of his war injuries, he is limited in his ability to wield a keyboard."
By attacking McCain for his very service to our country, Barack Obama has gone beyond the pale. And, to be clear, this is not something Obama can blame on his staff, as he shown a tendency to do. Obama says himself in the ad, "I'm Barack Obama and I approved this message." He owns this.
There is one Obama supporter who should denounce these attacks on McCain's service: former United States Sen. Max Cleland, a decorated Vietnam veteran, who lost both legs and one arm valiantly defending our country.
In 2002, it was McCain who very publicly condemned an ad critical of Cleland. Max Cleland is a war hero. He should defend another war hero being mocked for injuries he received protecting our freedoms.
Max Cleland should do the right thing — and return the favor — by denouncing Obama's attack on John McCain's service.

Don't worry. Obama is digging a deep hole from which he will not return.

LOL!!! I can't even type this post without craking up…you actually expect Max Cleland who was abused by the GOP to defend Senator honorable? LOL!!!!!! While you're at it, why don't u ask John Kerry? remember the GOP convention four years ago?
The POW Card…
http://www.thevaneljournal.com/2008/08/pow-card.html
Overuse of the POW card has negated its effect.
Comment by Theard — September 16, 2008 @ 11:56 am
Sorry, but quadriplegics can use computers, so there's absolutely NO way that McCain's POW status rules out his ability to do the same.
And where was Sen. McCain when the GOP parasites in Georgia were sliming Cleland by tying him to Usama bin Laden? Where was McCain when far-right fringe knuckle-draggers were claiming Cleland brought about his own maiming by being drunk and handling grenades in an obviously unsafe manner?
Did you whine about Rush Limbaugh's bashing of any US troops who didn't agree with the Iraq fiasco when he called them "phony soldiers"?
And did you complain about all those GOP swine wearing purple heart bandaids, mocking John Kerry and every single other recipient of the Purple Heart at the 2004 Republican convention?
There's absolutely NOTHING "honorable" about McCain anymore, anyone who would hire the same slugs who attacked his own adopted daughter in the 2000 South Carolina primary lacks the character and integrity needed to be an efficient, effective, competent President.
Reality-phobic, logic-free extremist blowhards like Heye and really have no one to blame but themselves when people don't listen to their easily-debunked drivel, as it's radicals like Heye and his ilk who do NOT represent the political, social or religious mainstream in our society.
Comment by KingCranky — September 16, 2008 @ 1:44 pm
Cleland need not respond to this joke of a post, and McCain the Senator should be put off with someone whining like this on his behalf. McCain the candidate might stoop to this kind of silly response to a valid questions of McCain's basic competence.
It is fair to point out that McCain does not have the competence, judgment or temperament to govern anything in the 21st century.

Hey Doug
I agree with you. It just shows the level of desperation the Obamaites have when the try to diminish someones abilities by using their disabilities. "oBortunist's"
I use to think the Dems were the kinder party. From what I have seen this year - they a just SICK ! I am glad I am out !!!
It was scary how violent they became at the RNC while protesting outside.
There is just too much stress out there among the democratrs. They should chill a little and Vote McCain/Palin.
McCain/Palin - the sanity ticket.

Obama would throw his own Grandma under the bus (wait, he once did) to win an election. You expect him to be honest or honorable? He obviously hates America in the sense that the Weather underground hated it and wanted to change it. You can say he is patriotic in his own way, in the same way that caused Julius Rosenberg to spy for the Soviets or for Jane Fonda to go to Hanoi, but not in the way as most people understand. He will put down sacred things because to him nothing is sacred but raw power. Usually he knows not to go too far he has to rely on his political instincts not his sense of honor. This hateful creature is exposed by the little things he does wrong, and by the company he keeps. Who needs an anti-American President? George Soros and Rashid Khalidi, that's who.

What Igor meant to say:
Ms Porky would trample anyone who gets in her way, the Alaskan streets are littered with past enemies who dared to oppose her (troopergate is one). You expect her to be honest and honorable while she stonewalls an investigation, keeps lying about THE BRIDGE. She obviously hates america, her hubby, the first dude is a member of a radical Secessionist group, AIP.
You can say that she is patriotic in her own way, Alaska first!, and her foreign policy experience? She can she Russia from her house!
She knows now that she must reign in her views and not go too far, she has to rely on the GOP propaganda machine to prop her and feed the frenzy to the Palintologist loonies.
This hateful creature is exposed by the many scandals she tries to hide, and by the company she keeps, that loonie fundie church, Wasilla Assemblies of God. Who needs an unvetted, unqualified, secessionist VP? The kingpin lobbyists, that's who.

Gee if McCain is that messed up I don't want him to be president. These sound like crippling handicaps and like he should be in a nursing home.
I wonder how far away McCain is from becoming completely senile. 60 days? 6 months? He sure is acting and talking funny.
maybe he just has a bad case of "right-wing zealot pandering". too bad there's no cure for that except bed rest.

"It was scary how violent they became at the RNC while protesting outside. "
you're kidding right? The police arrested people for standing around on the sidewalk. They arrested people BEFORE the RNC even started.
gee… how many cops/soldiers/g-men were admitted to the hospital due to attacks?
Comment by Kevin — September 16, 2008 @ 4:49 pm
Kevin: Your ignorance to the facts is showing. In time of need you would not fight for your country but would hide in the background and let others do it for you so you need to stay quiet now. You have nothing of interest to say.
Comment by Teerry Gee — September 16, 2008 @ 5:57 pm
Theard, no, what I meant to say is that the difference between Obama and a terrorist is that Obama is too scared to do it. But they both want the same thing.

Igor, you are one sick futher mucker

The only difference between what McCain did in Viet Nam, and what the Enola Gay dropped on Nagasaki,
is that the roles were reversed. In Viet Nam we were the aggressor and Viet Nam did nothing to deserve our butchery.
Viet Nam has 90% of the world's high grade tin ore. Something often overlooked by the history books. There was an imperialist motive for what we did there - it wasn't the "domino defect"

Tin is used in every circuit board and electronics device in the world. Tin ore is a strategic mineral.
Comment by Fred from Oregon — September 16, 2008 @ 7:08 pm
We stopped getting Viet Namese tin, but had to buy it on the British market. They wouldn't sell directly to us, anymore. Who can blame them?
The price of Tin sky-rocketed after the Viet Namese boondoggle.

New Item:
From NBC's Chuck Todd
Both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin will participate in a protest on Monday of the presence of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadienjad, NBC News has learned.
The two politicians will not appear together at the protest but will both participate, according to those close to the organizing of this protest. The event is being organized by a coalition of groups (mostly Jewish) upset by the presence of Ahmadienjad in New York at the opening of the U.N. General Assembly and the threat Iran presents to "global security."
The protest will take place across the street from the U.N.
————————-
News Question: will Obama appear?
Answer: Bhahahaha…..there IS such a thing as professional courtesy between similar world leaders. Will Hussein protest against Mahmoud? Well, maybe if they have a dispute over oil or say camels, but not in front of such an important (Bhahahaha) organization as UN where birds of feather must act PRESIDENTIAL!
Comment by Igor R. — September 16, 2008 @ 7:36 pm
Look at the picture of Mahmoud's friendly face and see how popular he is getting. Talk to him Barry, no preconditions, and no cheating like some private channels!

Actually, presidents dont do protests, neither does a prez in waiting (Obama). This is what surrogates are for. HRC is doing her job, Palin –I guess she can do some cheers and a few beauty queen poses.
McCain needs to be there, since he will be back in the Senate in two months

Yup, some conservatives are pigs with no lipstick - they are not letting Barack's brother stay in poverty like they should.
September 13, 2008
Kenya - The Daily Nation
Barack Obama's popularity can be gauged by the growing desperation with which his enemies are fighting him. Some self-appointed individuals are now busy collecting money from Americans to lift one of Barack's Kenyan siblings [George Hussein Onyango Obama] out of poverty. A man who may be a Kenyan of Goan origin, is seeking to rescue Obama's half-brother from misery in a Nairobi slum. Don't you smell a rat?
First, to live in a slum isn't necessarily to be a pauper. I know individuals with lots of money who live permanently in such areas.
Secondly, where was this latter-day savior before Barack appeared in the news pages? Why is it that he is only interested in helping the relative of a celebrity, whereas hunger is rasping millions of other Kenyans?
Comment by Igor R. — September 16, 2008 @ 8:03 pm
At least one upside, McCain won't be able to push the Red Button even if his campaign of lies wins him the White House.
McCain is too old-fashioned to want to use a computer or he could have done what many handicapped folks have done; he could have hired someone to set him up with a voice-activated computer. But I suspect he would rather play on our sympathies with the POW excuse.

Doug
To respond to your actual question why Max Cleland has not stood up for McCain on the Obama attack on McCain's computer ability.
Lets look at it from his perspective.
Place yourself in Max's position, (now think about it for a while, a good while, maybe a week or a month, and still you'll never get it fully, unless you live it). Max cleland overcame monumentaly disabilities, and has worked hard his entire life, in spite of his losses.
To respond to some trivial attack by Obama on such an insignificant ingnorant lie would be just giving more resonance to that dopey and desperate democratic attack.
It is obvious Obama an company have no consideration or compassion or class.
McCain and Cleland are true warriors - they don't play in the sandbox with babies like Obama.
Comment by JFK-HRC — September 16, 2008 @ 9:05 pm
smilinjack, exactly! He was just waiting for Obama to use this issue in a commercial to pounce on it and get some sympathy. Clever guy!

Seems McC can squeeze a lemon and work a blackberry..He insults the Vets and disabled who have overcome their injuries to come into the 21st century…
Comment by Docb — September 17, 2008 @ 9:01 am
Melissa, I already commented on this when Theard posted it. They are all losers, every single one of them, especially the Republican ones because they had no spine at all.
Comment by Igor R. — September 17, 2008 @ 7:50 pm
Bull, such whiney crap.
Whiney Bull. Mc Cain can sure swing that veto pen around when he speaks. Keyboards are easier on the arms and hands than pen. Most computer involve the mouse anyway.
Much more severely disabled, immobile vets use computers all the time.
McCain's no hero. If anyone was a hero, it was the Viet Namese guy that kept the mob from stoning him in Hanoi.
Did McCain ever thank him in public?
John got the red carpet from the Viet Cong because he was high-value. His dad was the head of the pacific fleet and the VC knew it. Few Americans were treated as well as he was.
John McCain represents the past.
Barack Obama represents the future.
That's the point. Not dishonor.
Comment by Fred from Oregon — September 18, 2008 @ 1:28 am
Fred, Jane Fonda got "the red carpet from the Viet Cong", what McCain got was torture, and what you're hurling is vicious slander.
Comment by Igor R. — September 18, 2008 @ 5:13 pm
Please give it up on the POW issue with McCain 40 years ago. He's got NOTHING ELSE. I'm sick of the dems referring to his wonderful service. Nobody should have to go through being a POW, but enough already. It was 40 freaken years ago.
Comment by Joyce — September 19, 2008 @ 12:41 am
Torture my foot. They probably kicked his but for dumb smartass remarks.
His injuries were from his parachute and the mob that tried to kill him.
