Democracy in Danger (Cheri Jacobus)

@ 4:59 pm

Now that we've witnessed the rise of socialism in the United States with the bank bailout, the auto bailout and more bailouts and handouts to come, we can put a fork in democracy, too.

With Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) caught trying to sell President-elect Obama's U.S. Senate seat and no special election set as the arrested governor tries to appoint Obama's successor, New York Gov. David Paterson (D) geared up to appoint Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg to Hillary Clinton's vacated seat (now that he is convinced Kennedy Schlossberg will be worth millions of fundraising dollars to him and is ignoring the fact that she has no experience), and satirist Al Franken (D) all but stealing a U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota by counting some votes (for him) twice and not counting others, I think it's safe to say that democracy in America is dying. It is also correct that it's Democrats doing the killing. > Read More

LaHood Now Out of the Way for Illinois Senate Seat (Cheri Jacobus)

@ 2:20 pm

In my original home state of Illinois, retiring Rep. Ray LaHood is one of very few Republicans who could win statewide in a special election to fill President-elect Obama's vacated U.S. Senate seat.

But now that Obama has tapped the popular Illinois politician to be secretary of Transportation in his administration, I guess that's one big threat removed. With LaHood out of the way, Democrats have a better chance of retaining the Senate seat if forced by public outcry to hold a special election rather than gubernatorial selection, whether by likely soon-to-be-ex-Gov. Rod Blagojevich or Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn once he becomes governor resulting from the impeachment or resignation of Blagojevich. > Read More

Blago ‘Crazy-Not-Corrupt’ Charge Designed to Protect Obama (Cheri Jacobus)

@ 11:31 am

It's a mad, mad world!

The not-so-subtle suggestions that the Illinois governor (for now), Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat, is an uncontrollable egomaniac who just may be stark raving mad, bipolar, harboring illusions of self-grandeur and should probably be locked up in a padded room rather than a jail cell are just a tad bit transparent. > Read More

Illinois Special Election is a Must (Cheri Jacobus)

@ 1:00 am

With Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's (D) sleazy "pay to play" scheme fully exposed — he attempted to extort monetary favors from potential candidates to be appointed to President-elect Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat — there is only one viable solution to filling that seat. There must be a special election in Illinois.

With potential appointees' names being dragged through the mud — some possibly for good reason if they were, in fact, offering bribes — Illinois residents and the entire country deserve to have a fair election. Leading Democrats in Springfield should not hesitate to work with Republicans and have both parties’ elected officials fall in line to ensure they have the votes to override any veto the disgraced governor may launch to legislation they need to pass for a special election. As well, no self-respecting citizen should allow Blagojevich to appoint him or her to the Senate. Who would want to be the skunk at that garden party? > Read More

Extending 'Last Call for Alcohol' for Obama Inauguration a Deadly Mistake (Cheri Jacobus)

@ 2:03 pm

In what will undoubtedly go down in history as the stupidest and most dangerous move by the D.C. City Council, bars in the nation’s capital will extend "last call" from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. during the Obama inauguration.

Why now? Why for this president-elect? Likely the dollar signs in the eyes of owners of local watering holes have pushed the lawmakers over the edge into this area of irresponsibility. The likelihood of alcohol-related injuries and deaths will skyrocket, arrests for public drunkenness and disorderliness will increase, and the potential for tragedy to mar Barack Obama's celebration will be heightened. > Read More

Saxby Chambliss Win is a Ray of GOP Hope (Cheri Jacobus)

@ 9:30 pm

After the humbling trouncing the GOP suffered in the November elections, many in the party were set to dig in for a long fight before seeing any signs of resurgence. Now we have a bit of hope that the climb, while steep, is not impossible.

Republican Saxby Chambliss has delivered a big win — nearly 20 points — in the Senate runoff in Georgia. Barack Obama aired ads for Democrat Jim Martin, and all the big guns in the Democratic Party campaigned for Martin. Likewise, Chambliss brought in a few big names of his own, including Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. The GOP win cost the Democrats the filibuster-proof Senate they craved, and may quell the pompous posturing of an assumed mandate. The supermajority has been denied, and the GOP lives to fight another day. > Read More

Obama's Strategery (Cheri Jacobus)

@ 11:00 am

Bush-appointed Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. Bush tax cuts in place. Wariness and drama with the Clintons. Reagan-style line-item budget-cutting plans.

This is what Washington looks like with President-elect John McCain, er, George Bush — I mean, Barack Obama. This inexperienced, largely unknown, history-making "blank slate" is doing a few things that may cause many who voted against him to sigh with relief. > Read More

The Trashing of Sarah Palin by McCain Staff (Cheri Jacobus)

@ 12:59 pm

The anonymous "sources" in the McCain campaign trashing Gov. Sarah Palin is the final disappointing and frustrating misstep of the Republican presidential campaign. To see reporters gleefully reporting this sickening sabotage was yet another reminder that far too often, and with disturbing frequency in this campaign, "breaking news" has been little more than a fig leaf for "breaking gossip."

The term "diva" has been thrown around by the men in the McCain campaign to describe Gov. Palin — a word that is never used to describe men. I suppose if they liked the governor (which, it appears, would only have been possible if they felt they could have "controlled" her) they might refer to her as having "moxie" or various other descriptions reserved only for women. > Read More

L.A. Times Protecting Obama from YouTube (Cheri Jacobus)

@ 12:21 pm

In a disgusting and disturbing display of leftist activism devoid of any journalistic integrity, the Los Angeles Times is suppressing a very important tape showing Barack Obama toasting anti-Israel Palestinian activist Rashid Khalidi at a 2003 function also allegedly attended by Bill Ayers — you know, the domestic terrorist who hosted a fundraiser for Obama in his home, and on whose book Obama penned an endorsement and with whom Obama served on boards but with whom Obama claims with a straight face he is only somewhat acquainted.

The L.A. Times has put yet another nail in the coffin of journalism. They are an arm of the Obama campaign and have proven as much by not releasing their tape of Obama praising Khalidi because it might change some voters' minds, particularly in the all-important state of Florida. > Read More

Getting In Touch With Your Inner Charles Krauthammer (Cheri Jacobus)

@ 11:30 am

With all of the partisan hysterical blather spread over the airwaves and the Internet, there are times when it can be difficult to find clarity and truth. In such times, it is usually good advice to get in touch with your inner Charles Krauthammer. His column today dissecting this presidential race is a good starting point for first-timers.

Krauthammer, in his infinite wisdom, not only articulates why a McCain presidency is far superior to an Obama presidency, but also nails the urgency of getting it right on Election Day and the dangers of getting it very, very wrong. The electorate has been largely duped by a liberal activist media — far worse than mere left-wing bias — and the consequences could be disastrous. Here are some Krauthammer highlights: > Read More
